The Pearl Police Department issued the following statement.
Pearl Police have charged Edward DeLawrence McWilliams, 42, of Richland, with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Herbert Redmond, 25, of Jackson, at the Wendy’s on Pearson Road Thursday night.
Officers responded to the restaurant just before 8:30 p.m. after a report of a fight between two employees in the kitchen area. Redmond had been stabbed in the neck and died at the scene. McWilliams was taken into custody at the restaurant without incident.
Investigators recovered the knife, which belonged to McWilliams.
McWilliams is being held at the Rankin County Detention Center without bond. McWilliams is a convicted felon that served time in the Mississippi Department of Corrections for armed robbery and manslaughter.

And there are legislators (at the state and federal level) who want to outlaw criminal background checks. (Not that this employer paid to have one performed.)
It was HIS knife. It wasn't Wendy's kitchen knife. Knives must be outlawed!
"Without incident." Must be how he got that swollen eye - those racist cops who work for Pearl PD must've gotten in a few licks before he got to the jailhouse. Gotta wonder how this all started...at least he'll be prosecuted by the Madison/Rankin DA instead of the fools across the river.
Why do killers EVER get out of jail? Heck, given the price of a bullet or some form of gas versus the cost of incarceration for life, why should a killer even be still alive?
Probably fighting over a frosty.
I drove by the one in Ridgeland about the same time.
Could've been me.
all these suburb crimes lately...hmm...was told many times on here that crime and criminals in jackson would stay in jackson. guess it was wrong..must be everyone's problem.
@12:54 PM, I'm certain the fight he was in with the guy he stabbed had nothing to do with his black eye. I mean, had to be the cops, right? Not the fight where someone got killed.
Try harder.
Pearl has become a magnet for Jackson's troublemakers. I hope Pearl PD polishes their jackboots and cracks down hard on this scum.
12:54 - Can you read or did you just overlook the part that said the two employees were in a fight? Surely you're not just another goober quick to suggest police brutality.
Armed robbery and manslaughter? Why was he out of prison?
1:09PM You celebrating the fact that it is oozing out of the bold new city?
@12:54 #2
Bullshit. Pearl is the most diverse city in the state. The officers at Pearl PD reflect that diversity. Just like Pearl School District, Pearl PD remains top because the city and the citizens hold them to the highest standards.
Don't bring your crime to Pearl.
Obviously never intended to stab anybody. Must've left his gun at home.
Ooops.
^^^12:54 TOTALLY!
It's illegal for him to carry a gun @3:14. He's a convicted felon.
I’ve noticed little things in Pearl that are concerning. Very aggressive driving is just one sign that suggests core problems. Lots of stop sign and red light running. I don’t even live in Pearl but travel through it regularly going to and from work. I make it a point of looking at the tags of of the offending vehicles. Guess what county most of them are from???? Not Rankin. Pearl has a daunting task. Because they have tried to create an environment where businesses, safe neighborhoods and good schools are the norm, the bad element has followed either in permanently relocating or just daily incursions into the area to work their hustle. They are following the money and hard working folks both black and white that just want to raise their families safely, are the targets.
ROFL
Love all the Pearl comments and the convenient amnesia about Pearl's history (criminal, political and cultural).
Those living in glass houses really ought not throw stones, even when the glass is now Plexiglas.
