Scenes of a Flood

Rick Guy sent Kingfish1 into the sky and shot some video of some of the flooding around Jackson yesterday.  The video and some still photos are posted below.

Time for FEMA to do some buyouts. Why the heck is that trailer park even there? Same with parts of Canton Club and Colonial Heights.

Kane Ditto has made millions renting that flood land to wobble box owners.....

Anonymous said...

Came here to also ask why a trailer park of all things is allowed at the base of the Rez. Makes no sense

@11:55 - why should my tax dollars be used to buy out landowners who made bad purchase decisions?

Ditto and his kids live in ne Jackson eastover making millions off of the trailer parks. The rich getting richer in eastover. Sounds about right.

Well, I guess we know where the first lottery proceeds are going...

Looks like the water is up to the skirting & not actually in the trailers yet at the trailer park. 26.6 feet now. Crested! Pray the least who can afford to lose are spared. Thank you LORD.
Also, thanks for Drones. Get shots KF. Is this your Drone?

Correction. the river was at 36.67 without significant change recorded over the past four hours. Love the shot of the swinging bridge.

I thought they didn't want anyone taking pictures.

Why is it wrong to rent space on your land to people who want to park their double-wide there? Caveat emptor.

Where is that foot bridge you have in your pics?

Thanks for dropping by. It's been there for 40 years. Next?

The trailer park land was probably cheap. The people renting/leasing space are doing so because they are poor & can not afford a better more costly location. So people buy property like this to take advantage of the poor. Everything time I hear a politician speak, they are gonna take care,of the poor . Does not appear that anyone is taking care of these people. This property should be condemned. The taxpayers should not be out any money to these property owners profiting off the poor. Where are the city officials? Why do they let this go on. It seems like the city government harasses people with permits & all, but can not correct an obvious wrong. Come on elected official. Do your jobs & stop this type of treatment of the disadvantaged.

5:08......40 years. Next?
How many politicians have been elected in Ridgeland doing these 4 decades? It is like developers run a city rather than elected officials. Wealthy land developers get tax advantages while poor people have to live in depressed areas.

obviously, none of you have seen this trailer park. the grounds are well kept, every is tidy, and its cleaner/better maintained than most neighborhoods in jackson and surrounding suburbs.

5:36 Last I checked there is not anything preventing you or anyone else from opening a traitor park on land that doesn't flood. This land you purchase will naturally cost more than land the floods every 10 or 20 years so you will have to charge more than the park you are complaining about. But the renters can make that decision. From the looks of things they will chose the less expensive park that floods sometimes. But that's how capitalism works. It's a beautiful thing.

The river has been on a slow march upwards over the last month or so with all of the rain. And more is coming. It’s almost like it’s a trick by Mother Nature. The overall threat of a big flood event isn’t gone. The slow progression of water being dumped down in the area is showing no signs of stopping. And, that’s a problem. Besides greater coordination between governmental entities, nothing has been accomplished in the Pearl River Basin to stop or prevent another event like The Easter flood.

5:36 & 5:59......both of you two snooty morons know absolutely nothing.
Just because you live in a trailer doesn't mean you're poor and can't afford to live anywhere else.

II know people who lived there because they worked in Jackson area, but lived in NE Mississippi and didn't want to move their families into the blighted area of Jackson and sub par school system. They stayed here and went home on weekends.

I lived in a trailer for 10 yrs and probably made more that you two pompous assholes (sorry KF, but they deserve it) because I wasn't sure I was staying in the area. A friend of mine lived in one, because he had 50 acres and wanted the privacy and his wife liked the quick house cleaning and between them they earned about $65k so I wouldn't classify them as poor.

I can give you a lot more examples of the same thing, but I'll just give you the finger and that way you can understand the meaning. So go back to your rainbow Fondren watering hole and cry in your Shirley Temple drink.

I'd whole lots associate with those people in the trailers that are hard working individuals, who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty, because they're real folks, not fake trash who think they are something special like you two. 🖕 🖕

It sure is nice to wake up every morning, knowing my house is paid for. Granted, market value is only $230k. I could write a check or better than that; easily leverage a couple of CDs to live in a $700k house. For what? Have nicer friends.... Bull Crap. I like my neighbors. Harbor Pines is the same scenario. Most could go elsewhere if they wanted. I don’t think St. Peter is gonna ask me to remind him what the DCR of my house, was.

It is low, but they know what is at risk.

The flood of 79 was caused by human error, mainly calculation and communication errors . I would love an investigation into this flood to see whether same factors played a role in 2020. Several agencies including NWS miscalculated inward and outward flow rate of the REZ, city drains couldn’t handle sewer water and on top of that, there was rumors in 79 saying the REZ held high water to make money off a bass tournament.

There Ya Have It! said...

9:16 - Why do we need an investigation when we have your guesswork, assumptions and rumors you heard forty years ago? With your knowledge at hand, a study would be a waste of money.

Nobody living in these or any other mobile homes are benefiting from section 8 housing, rent subsidies or nine in an apartment. They're all working people, some single moms, some couples, some families with children. All minding their own business and enjoying what they have. Plus it's well kept and appreciated, not destroyed, trashed with holes punched in the walls and mattresses left in the dumpsters.

Next you clowns will suggest the thousands who rent storage space can't afford a house big enough for all their stuff.

Here's a step-stool: Get off your effing high-horse.

I just think it's sad that the people that live in nice houses in NE Jackson are the ones that own the storage u it's and the trailer park. Renting to the poor should be better regulated. The owners go to country club kids in private schools enjoy a NE Jackson lifestyle of privilege while the poor pay them money.

Anonymous said...

Why do they call them MOBILE homes?

Anonymous said...

Everyone here with their expert advice, and not a single person realizes the people in Harbor Pines actually have the ability to put the axles & tires back under their houses and move them. They are more fortunate than others who have a permanent solid foundation house.

And the person who says the government should "condemn" this place, well, bless your heart. What if someone thinks the government should condem where you live, or property you own. All homeowners have the opportunity to buy flood insurance. They can also choose to live further out at about the same price. No one forces anyone to live there. They are there because of a reason or several. Price & or location, they don't want the responsibility of home ownership, temporary location, secondary location, etc. I wonder if the people bashing the park owners, are reaching their hands out to help them, house them, cloth them, feed them, etc, or just bitching to be a Karen.

Anonymous said...

11:01 - You've obviously never arranged to put axles and wheels back under a mobile home and get it moved. It's not exactly like hooking up your jon-boat to go drum fishin'. Dumbass.

1:11, I have hunted on and around the ms river my whole life. Yes I know the logistics of it. I also know about having to drag them with bulldozers through mud. I've done it in a couple of days time as well. If they wanted to, they could have moved a majority of them working around the clock and put them on the failed harbor walk site and other places...if they wanted to.

Anonymous said...

2:40; I too have hunted and fished the Mississippi River and its oxbows my entire life, but what's that got to do with trailer axles in Ridgeland?

Let me know when you see anybody dragging trailers off blocks and through the concrete over to the area south of Shuckers. You seem to forget that every mobile home there is full of breakables, furniture and assorted other items, anchored and connected to power, water, gas, dump line and cable - not to mention skirting, decks, attached steps and awnings. Oh, about that mud between Lake Harbor and Rice Road...Keep that dozer fired up; MEMA could call you at any moment.

Anonymous said...

No need to move the mobile homes when you can just raise them a foot or so with an ordinary house jack and $100 worth of cinder blocks. The rich folks in Eastover wish they could do something that simple.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
