Update: Paul Barnett arrested for shooting firearm at Walmart. See below.
The Madison Police Department issued the following statement and mug shots about a shooting that took place at Walmart on Grandview Boulevard tonight.
However, this is not Coleman's first brush with the law. WLBT reported in 2008:
A 21-year old accused of murdering a Jackson man nearly two months ago is now behind bars. Investigators with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Jackson Enforcement Team and Jackson Police Department arrested Conerly Chapman.
He is charged with the September murder of Francios Gasnell.
Chapman also faces charges of aggravated assault and strong armed robbery. Those charges stem from the attack and robbery of a senior woman in the parking lot of Kroger on I-55 back in June 2007.
Chapman is being held at the Hinds County Detention Center. No bond has been set. What happened to the case? It was assigned to Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green. A grand jury indicted him for murder in 2017. He was represented by now-Circuit Judge Faye Peterson. He pleaded guilty on March 2, 2010 to manslaughter. Judge Green sentenced him to serve 20 years in prison but suspended 6 years of the sentence. He apparently violated probation several times from 2017 to 2019 but the adjudication of those violations is not yet known.
Update (2/21/20, 9:00 AM): The third suspect is Paul Barnett.

History is repeating itself.
Keep these animals away! We trying to have a decent life up here.
These yutes never learn that there are no blessings tendered in Madison Co. Great work by MPD and the Walmart loss prevention officers.
Lock and load.
Play stupid games...
I hate to see Madison getting so rough these days. Who would’ve thought adding a Walmart surrounded by a plethora of chains and big box stores would lead to having unwanted visitors....
Wife and I use this Walmart regularly and I'm "packing' every time. Never had any issues but just cruising the parking lot will explain why.
I'm so sick of judge Green... I live in northeast Jackson and her voters in that area of town are total idiots obviously. She needs to be removed from office for endangering the public. She's a huge liability
Madison is gone to hell. Time to move to Pearl I guess.
I live in northeast Jackson and her voters in that area of town are total idiots obviously.
Which precincts in NE Jackson vote for Circuit D2? If you live in NE Jackson truly you can answer the question.
thugs leave jackson? huh. who would have thought that? i thought there was some sort of magic boundary called “the county line” that kept them away.
7:01 - Pearl is no better. Wendy's employees are stabbing and killing one another !
Crime will be everywhere...but when you try it in areas like Madison more often than not you are going to get caught arrested tried and sentenced.
There is hope for Hinds County...nothing left that the thugs want so go to surrounding counties and let them lock up the garbage Judge Green recycles. Seriously, when will the Chief Justice do something about the courts in Hinds County?
Police need to search local gun records for an ATF Form 4473 to see if she bought the gun for him.
The ATF really needs prosecute the crime of straw purchasing firearms for felons. Doesn't matter if they are shacking up. He used it in a crime.
Stephanie's a popular gal. Almost 4000 friends on Facebook. Hmmm.
8:13, you know there's no 4473 for that pistol, he bought/borrowed/stole it from somewhere.
8:18
ANYBODY can have 4000 FB friends, even you. Truly funny to see those that claim 4000-4999 friends.
Double tap is the cure.
Madison’s & Ridgeland’s lust for low income shoppers, Madison’s big box & not to be denied Ridgeland’s new big box will only increase an undesirable criminal element into these suburban heavens. The once peaceful, safe communities will only deteriorate as selfish elected officials line their pockets. It is really hard to believe voters let a smiley, glad handshake blind their vote. How many times have you voted & look around to see so many that probably know nothing about the ones in whom they are voting. What adds insult to this injury is that these elected officials give non residents tax breaks to put resident tax paying businesses out of business.
@8:39
It's common to see couples like these two at gun counters all the time. He's quietly picking out the pistol and she's filling out the form.
Mr. Barnett....how do we know him........
Remember when Madison wasn’t for sale and WallyWorld was never to grace the city limits?
9:29 what a joke on us that was
This is why I have 0 compassion for Jackson...they consistently vote for their own demise.
Why are they stupid enough to come into Madison County and do this stuff? Each time will bring the same result....jail. Absolutely STUPID!
Tomie ain't in chaggg this time.
There won't be any blessings. Maybe a nice repeat offender status for this shit eater.
Looks like I’ll be navigating the flooded parking lot at Kroger’s on 51. I’m not familiar with Costco, but it may be worth taking a look.
It seems to me that since the city fathers of Jackson’s suburbs, Ridgeland/Madison, would join forces to become the 4th or 5th largest city in MS. Both r very similar. Both with their big box wholesalers to draw in regional shoppers. Of course, with this comes additional crime. A joint city could offer an enhanced police department for the protection of its citizens. Since they have become regional big box wholesalers, maybe being joined the could offer something for the arts, a cultural center. It would be better situated to house a convention center hotel which is much needed for MS.
It further seems to me if Jackson can support a black history museum & a Muslim cultural center, Madrid could support a more inclusive arts center that would be for all Mississippians.
When I heard about this I just assumed it was some out-of-state criminal driving up or down I-55 and thought it looked like a soft target. Anyone from the metro area should know better than to try this in Madison. Hell, I can pull over and look suspicious in Madison and I'll have 2-3 patrol cars behind me in a matter of minutes. I guess this is your brain on drugs.
Repeat offender status is always, always dropped in the plea deal. It might as well not even exist in MS.
Madison, you brought this on yourself. You poach major stores from Jackson, then you get the same criminals that used to operate in Jackson. Talk enjoy that Deal with the Devil.
Now Madison has gone to hell. Looks like I need to move now. This is sad! Who would’ve known, now whites are killing one another.
How is this Judge Green’s fault? I get so tired of the “Jackson is dying...waaah waaah waaah”... “Judge Green Gabe him a blessing... waaah waaah”..... Judge Green rarely deviates from the sentencing recommendation.by the DA’s office. The burden of price lands on the state and if they don’t have a good case they offer better plea deals... if they have an open and shut slam dunk case then plea offer is worse for defendant. It’s the way it works. In every courtroom. Even in Rankin and Madison counties.
Nice try. It is common practice for DA to not make any sentencing recommendations in judge green's court. Most pleas are open.
Costco won’t bring in the same trash most box stores do. It is a membership club that has mostly business customers.
Right, 9:39. Same way Sam's was designed. Enter one now and check out the bidness customers.
The online application process is open to anybody. Check it out.
Same annual fee process as Wal Mart Sams Club. Only half a month left before you can get your sixty-roll pack of squeezable Charmin and 28 packaged hot dogs.
Kingfish at 3:53....This is easily solvable. Was his case an open plea or with recommendation from the DA.
What non-lawyers don’t understand is that more times than not JPD screws up the investigation. Weak or faulty investigations lead to acquittals or light plea deals (in order to get some conviction).
Judge Greenn is a dam idiot. He will serve the rest of his life in Madison. Bam great job
10:02 you right about that. It’s a damn shame the way that went. But HER best friends are the richest in mad town.
