Winner, Winner, Lotto Dinner!

The Mississippi Lottery Corporation issued the following statement.

Jimmy Keene of Pelahatchie was on his way to work when he stopped at Hwy. 51 Chevron in Ridgeland.

Wanting to try something new, he purchased a $100,000 Jackpot scratch-off game. He scratched off the ticket and was thrilled at what he saw, that he won $100,000. When he got to work, he asked his boss to make sure he was seeing the amount correctly. His boss told him to immediately return to the store. The store associate told him to head to the lottery office.

Jimmy called his wife Becky to tell her the news.

“’What’s the matter with you?’ I asked him, because he was breathless,” she said laughing. “He told me he won $100,000, and I told him to quit lying to me!”

They arrived at Mississippi Lottery Corporation (MLC) headquarters to validate their winning ticket. Once they received their check, the two screamed and embraced in excitement.

$20,000 Winner!

A Greenwood woman stopped at Double Quick #21 in Greenwood to grab an energy drink on her way to work. While there, she also purchased the Triple 7s scratch-off game and won $20,000. Player chose to remain anonymous.

$2,000 Winner!

Carolyn Cleveland of Hickory stopped at Cefco #506 in Newton. She purchased the Happy Holidays, Y’all scratch-off game and won $2,000.

Apparently he didn't read the claim form section about staying anonymous. NO WAY I would ever let the lottery give out my name and publish a photo of me. I guess he doesn't mind ever relative and old friend knocking on his door.

Gosh, I bet he fells stupid for paying thay stupid tax. And he's the last person who should be buying lotto tickets.

I'm sure he's not the last winner we'll hear about. Have fun y'all!

Now the grand prize has been claimed, will the state pull all unsold tickets?

@Anon-e-mouse,
You should check the www.mslotteryhome.com website. There are 4 grand prizes per game. And no lottery company pulls the game when all grand prizes are won. There are still plenty of lesser cash prizes to win. Louisianalottery.com lists how many jackpots are left per game.

According to www.mslotteryhome.com the top jackpot prize count at the launch of the games are as follows:

3 Times Lucky= 24
Happy Homidays Y'all= 4
Triple 7= 8
$100,000 Jackpot= 4

If you check the MS Lottery site it also lists the numbers for the lower prize amounts per game. Just click on the picture of the game for prize details.

Overall odds for winning anything in is about 1:8 for these scratch offs.

He may net $50,000 after Uncle Sam and the state get their "tax on tax" from him, come April.

Nope.

A working stiff? No. He'll net well north of that.

@8:19
Yup, he might as well just give that $50k back to the MS Lottery Corporation. It's only $50k, right?

@8:29
Yup. Some of the games have even better odds than 1:8. One of the new ones released today has 1:4 odds.

WLBT provided superb free advertising for the Mississippi Lottery. I can't wait to go see Mr. Patel my own self.

How's that 8:19?

He still cannot afford even 1/2 the cost of a dinner with Tate.

Just making poor people poorer.
How many kids won't get Christmas presents this year because of the lottery?
Think how that's going to effect the kids. At school "Whatyou get for Christmas? Nothing. My folks spent it on cigs, booze, dope, & lottery tickets.
Irresponsible.

@ 10:44 AM - I totally agree with you. Many buy lottery tickets for hope, not entertainment. However, paying $250,000 for a dinner with Tate is also based on hope. Purchasers of both are irresponsible.

Anonymous said...

Is it considered "redneck" to give lottery tickets for Christmas presents?

Anonymous said...

Stop 9:18 AM. NO Mississippi scratch off game is close to 1:8.

@9:21
You are going to be shocked when they begin broadcasting the Powerball and Mega Millions drawing results 4x a week at the end of the 10pm newscast. I think they still use pingpong balls in a vacuum to draw the mumbers!

Per the www.mslotteryhome.com website all scratch off games currently have 1:4 odds of winning any prize.
Odds aren't for the Jackpot. Odds are given for ANY prize. Including winning a free ticket.

He's from Pelahatchie. Wonder if he'll donate some money to the Pelahatchie Mayor.

8:19, You should go back and take your tax courses again, unless, of course, you have never taken one.

The tax rates on this additional $100k are not about to approach the 50% level unless of course this gentleman was already in a very high income bracket.

Yes - if you ever win those MEGA million lottery numbers that have more zeros in them than you can count, you can start calculating in the 50% range. But this guy - he won what would be a good one year salary for many folks. And that is not taxes (fed and state) at a gross 50% rate.

Even if it was, I'll bet he would be glad to pocket the $50 grand that you allow. But he'll be even happier to pocket the $70 or so he will probably net.

That is my Pappie!!!

You guys are not as learned as you make out to be. How could the tax possibly be more than 38% plus 5% for a total of 43% ?

And effectively less than that unless the whole thing is taxed at the max, which appears unlikely from looking at the picture.

My long lost brother has been found (Thank you lottery)

Some states have a little "hidden" (because it's generally not known) gambling or lottery tax of 2% +/- on top of fed and state income tax. Bubba should also start collecting losing tickets from gas station garbage cans. Losses offset winnings. I'm sure Bubba could convince that in dropped $300/week on scratch off tickets by the end of the year.

Which states? Please name them.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
