Just another day on Woodrow Wilson.....

Should have gone to Kosciusko. Seriously. Well worth the drive and the ladies who work there couldn't be nicer.

Of the many, many tips I've read on JJ over the years the tip about Kosciusko is one of the best. Top 3.

This is not unusual. Bring them out of the field and staff the place. I can assure you that you could not run a privately owned business this way. Mississippi third world. However, if you are simply renewing your license, you can do it online.

Got my daughter's driver's license there last Thursday. We were the only people in there when we arrived around 8:30. Seemed like we were out of there, including road test, around 30 minutes. Just asked for Mable.

There are three or four self-service booths where you can renew your license. It takes five minutes. Sadly, the waiting room is packed and the booths are empty. Most people would rather wait to be called on than do it themselves.

Guess they got nothing else going on in life. Might as well wait for someone to tell them what to do.

They do have skilled people working there, you just dont always get them.

I was sitting on the front row and could hear the MHP employee at the counter struggling to figure out how to give a driver's license to a nonresident alien. Suddenly a lady appeared and told her exactly what to select and how to enter his information and the non-citizen got his license and left. The entire exchange took about 20 minutes.

For me it took them about 1 hour and 45 minutes to get my license renewed. I'm a citizen so I got the typical sass and lack of professionalism indicative of government workers in Jackson.

I realize PhillBilly is a Lame Duck but DPS is still his agency to run until January 2020. Between the Delta flooding and the Coast environmental disaster he has been MIA. Where has he been?

Lines are always horrible if you go first of the month.

Things have gotten so bad you now have Watson the Wacko bucking to get Drivers License over to the Secretary of State's office. Good. Lord.

Anonymous said...

Fortunately 2:34, and thankfully with Watson, candidates from south of I-10 never get elected to a statewide office.

Anonymous said...

I'm not doing that.

Just give me the ticket, or whatever.

@2:33 PM (I) - "Feel" is busy organizing the Mississippi National Guard into a Space Force. You just can't make this stuff up. Farmers and fishermen are in financial trouble, but "Feel" and Tate can't worry about that.

@3:05 PM
I guess you're totally clueless about the Saiyan invasion fleet on their way from Namek? We must prepare our defences.

Anonymous said...

I would just risk incarceration due to driving with an expired license rather than sit through that.

Anonymous said...

@1:45, you are spot on about the DPS office in Kosciusko. If my family has to do any business with DPS in person, we will be making the drive up to Koz.

I may be mistaken, but you can only renew at a kiosk if everything’s the same as your DL before, but you do have to take a fresh pic. I used the kiosk and was in and out in 5 mins at Woodrow Wilson on a Thursday right after lunch and then received it in the mail a couple days later. I had no clue about the kiosk until I was waiting for like an hour, and saw a couple people come in and out using the kiosk, and I asked about it. Thank God I finally asked, or I might still be waiting lol.

I think you can renew online (again - if no changes) at every other renewal, and they just reuse your old pic and mail it in a couple days.

Hey . . . I think we can all agree a great MSP Division of the Public Safety Departemt is needed.

(Mississippi Space Patrol)

Otherwise, they really DO need to work on the Earthling's driver license renewal stuff.

Anonymous said...

I can't speak for renewal, because I used the kiosk last time and it worked smoothly.

But I took my son to Pearl/Brandon (near the prison) for his permit at 15. Then I took him to metrocenter for his actual license at 16. Both offices were staffed in number adequately. The problem was supervision and work ethic. I have never seen so many workers (I use that term loosely in this case) move so slowly. Every one of them should have been fired. EVERY. ONE. OF. THEM. It was a lesson in government inefficiency. One decent employee could have done the job of 5 that I saw. Easily.

It't typical government. I went to Canton to the Madison County Tax Collector and the person waiting on me was watching a movie on her phone while she typed up the info for my car tag. With sound. She was laughing and everything at the movie. Kay Pace was nowhere to be found, and nobody working there seemed to care. I was so flabbergasted I took a picture.

The average wait time in Nesbit (just outside Hernando) is 2:58. And that's from when you get your number. The line to get the number is around the building.

Anonymous said...

This is so ridiculous. It shouldn't take multiple trips and half a day to get your license. There are other out of town options, but should citizens really have to resort to this? Every driver has to go to the DMV at some point. Shouldn't the State of MS be able to staff and run the DMV in an efficient manner? This is why the government should not be in charge of our healthcare! One of the posters above was absolutely correct in saying that this was a private business they would be out of business.

This is an absolute representation of Feel Bryant’s legacy. State government is still dysfunctional. Something as simple as issuing drivers license hasn’t been accomplished. It looks like a third world country at the drivers license station.

Anonymous said...

@ 3:14 Thanks for clearing that up. Star Fleet Commander “Feel” and his trusty sidekick “Late Tate” will take care of us.

Anonymous said...

Moved back from another state recently, went to Pearl. The line was long but the actual process was 15 minutes and my pic was so good I didn’t recognize myself. If you think it’s a whole lot different in other states especially large metros, you’re mistaken.

Tax accessor office is in Madison. Not Canton. Nice try loser

Michael Watson may be a tea party guy but he’s actually giving some real good suggestions to fix this shit. This is basic functions of government stuff that is totally broken.

Anonymous said...

For 5:08.... that is why the government workers have no accountability for their actions. DOR has the worst...no accountability for actions. BUT! They all get on board with the ponzu scheme called pers and WE have to foot the bill because WE are the employers. Hell, you wouldn’t work either if you got all the benefits state, county and city workers get.

Reminds me of the DMV office in Shreveport some years ago, you could pay someone $20 to wait in line for you and they call you when they were 2nd or 3rd from being served. But I'd take a short 20 minute drive to Minden and be in and out in less than 10 minutes. Where I live now, you can either wait (usually three hours or more) or you can go online and make an appointment.

Anonymous said...

@10:13 PM

You are wrong! The Tax Collector's office IS in Canton. I go there to pay property taxes and for tag renewals. The location in Madison is a satellite office for both the Tax Collector and Tax Assessor (not accessor!)

Anonymous said...

How does moving the DMV to the Secretary of State fix the problem. It under the office of the governor now which falls squarely on the governor. A governor who had real management skill would fix things.

Anonymous said...

Does Miss. have a private DMV office in the capitol for legislators and other big shots? You know, so they don't have to wait in line with the unwashed masses. California does, so I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the ruling class here do also.

Anonymous said...

Pay the workers 21K a year, and that's what you get.

Anonymous said...

@8:26 ding ding. Louisiana has private DMV satellites that can do 90% of what the DMV does, with professional staff and no wait. And the cost is only about $20 extra.

Anonymous said...

@4:57 I'm the poster you called out. I said Tax Collector, not Tax Assessor. There is a tax collector's office in Canton. Park on the north side of the square, go down the hall and you will see it, It is straight ahead. You will pass the bathrooms (on the left) and the chancery clerk land records (on the right). You can purchase your car tag there. I will take you there sometime if you want to see it.

So who is the loser now in this thread?

Anonymous said...

Bigwigs go down to the MHP training academy in Pearl to get their's done. It's part of the training.

Anonymous said...

Just FYI, Mississippi doesn't have a DMV which does licenses.

Anonymous said...

Wrong bigwigs come in the back door. No waiting. I know I escorted a few.

Anonymous said...

@8:36 You better believe it. They also don't have to wait the same amount of time that us patrons do for a tag/title. Theirs are printed immediately or next business day.

Go to the one in Greenwood. I promise we were done in 15 minutes. When I say NOBODY was there!!!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
