Woman Robbed in Belhaven.

JPD issued the following statement and picture.

Jackson Police are investigating a robbery and assault that occurred in the 1300 block of North Jefferson St.  It happened just before 9:00pm at the Belhaven Place Apartments.

Officers responded to learn that a 49-year-old white female had been robbed.  The victim was attempting to go to her apartment when she was approached by male armed with a handgun. The suspect demanded her purse and assaulted the victim when she refused.

The suspect later fled on foot with the purse and is described as a black male wearing dark clothing and a back pack. The suspect’s image was captured on surveillance video.

The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Anyone with information about this robbery or who can identify the individual in the images is asked to call CRIME STOPPERS at 601-355-TIPS(8477).  Information that leads to an arrest could be worth up to $2500.

Belhaven is LOST.

Some brave individuals that live there!

You shouldn't carry anything in your purse worth dying over.

Shocking.

Sadly, when the police show this snapshot around the neighborhood, every soul will say, "Hmmm, never saw him before."

7:49 am Do you even know where these apartments are?

The lack of city planning and just plain stupidity and greed in '50's that allowed commercial encroachment of neighborhoods without providing buffer zones is still a challenge for Jackson and other cities in MS.

Not even historic homes were adequately protected.

You see this failure all over MS . Vicksburg preserved around the old Capitol would be a lucrative tourist center. Nachtez did bit better but not much.

You may not like Mayor Mary, but she was smart to plan and require even nearby commercial buildings to not be future eyesores.

Pretty good pic of the perp. If there is an exact time stamp on it, some cell record research might make this an easy case to solve.

Hopefully, during the arrest, he will provide ample resistance and provide a crystal clear reason for police to use deadly force.

Why can't these people buy their own purse?

can someone tell me what is depicted on the shirt?

I bet this guy hasn't enrolled in any Career Readiness Certificate Program through his local JUCO-

Get that POS off the streets, and keep him there. Belhaven is worth saving.

Does an apartment complex like this have any security presence outside?

An armed robbery in The Belhaven. Tsk, tsk.

This punk, sissy, bitch, coward couldn't even rob a woman without using a gun.

You die-hard residents of The Belhaven don't be moving on up to Madison. You elected the fools "managing" Jackson - own it.

If you chose to live in the ghetto, then this type of stuff should not come as a surprise.

I bet he is just about to start college.

Round up the usual suspects.

Let' see...murders, armed robberies, more murders, more armed robberies, auto burglaries, and on and on.
Yeah. The Belhaven is safe, real safe.
It's a virtual utopia.

Is FPDS still open there?

Every time this happens property values in Madison and Rankin counties go up.

11:22, the name of the neighborhood is just plain old Belhaven. "The Belhaven" is the name of one particular building within the neighborhood. I know it may be confusing if you live in Madison the City.

Nope. I live in The N.E. Jackson, not The Madison, or The Fondren, or The Belhaven.
I do go to eat at The Manship, in The Belhaven in The Belhaven.
I just like saying "The xxxx".

Well in that case, by all means enjoy yourself, 2:36.

Ah, the "the" thing lives! That was one of the silliest arguments a few weeks ago on this blog that I can recall. To make matters worse, I think one of the new hotels in Fondren is to be called The Fondren. There's The Belhaven (not hotel) in Belhaven. Thanks for stirring the pot again, 2:36. I seem to recall that one of the sillier comments in that previous "debate" was about calling I-55 The 55 or I-20 The 20, which some provincial moron didn't seem to realize was extremely common practice elsewhere in the country.

Louis,
2:36 here. My pleasure.
At first, I was one of those that "corrected" the "The" guy/gal. Then, after an epiphany, I decided to embrace it and realized that it's too much fun NOT to say it.
As for the Interstate references, I was already familiar with that usage.
Can't WAIT for The Fondren to open!

As long as The Fondren and The Belhaven are "certified," then then use of "The" is appropriate.

Wonder if that is the same guy seen going in and out of that house on the 1100 block of Lyncrest. People need to watch out for themselves in Belhaven.

Amen 8:11am. We were interested in buying a house in Belhaven until we drove through it. There are beautiful houses for sale throughout Belhaven, many of which are near dilapidated apartments and rental houses. It's truly a shame no one had the foresight to preserve that neighborhood.

On the commercial edge of Belhaven which has always been more vulnerable than the interior residential portion north of there. A lot of ignorant comments here by those Madisonites who don’t know what they are talking about.

Madison is the new Pearl.

I am sorry for the victim. That obviously is not a sentiment shared among you losers who prefer to trash neighboring towns and cities.

The issue is the ever-escalating crime. The woman who was robbed couldn't help where she happened to be forced to live.

Anonymous said...

At lease she is still alive; unlike Mrs. Temple.

“There are beautiful houses for sale throughout Belhaven, many of which are near dilapidated apartments and rental houses.” Yes,most of these properties are owned by NEJAM PROPERTIES. It is a shame that one person, Nejam, could be such a big player in the decline and fail of Belhaven.

How to destroy a neighborhood 101. There is one street in Belhaven. New Stage bought all but one house on one side of the street. Kicked everyone out and converted the houses to offices and apartments for visiting actors. Keep in mind that the renters weren't of the transient variety but tended to live in these units for years. In other words, it was pretty stable. A local company bought two houses that were for sale across the street. They were owner occupied. They rented them out. Yup, someone lives there for six months, then moves out, move in new renter, rinse, repeat. Now the street has become transient renters and offices. Meanwhile, a neighborhood was pretty much destroyed.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
