Two more

JPD issued the following statement.

Jackson Police are investigating a fatal shooting that left two people dead and one injured. It occurred in the 3100 block of Bailey Avenue near Ridgeway Street.

Shortly before 1:30am, officers responded to Skonny’s BBQ, where they found two black males suffering from gunshot wounds.  One victim was pronounced deceased at the scene and the other was transported to a local hospital where he was deceased on arrival.

Officers later learned that a third black male victim had been transported by private vehicle with arm injury that is non life-threatening.

According to witness accounts, the two deceased victims had exited out of the business, and shots were fired shortly thereafter.  The third victim is believed to have been injured during that time.

An unknown black male suspect, wearing a gray hooded top, left running north on Bailey Avenue just after the shootings.

The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS(8477).

And the mayor said Jackson would be a safe place...This city is shit.

"fatal shooting that left two people dead"

fatal=dead

or fatally dead

"pronounced deceased on arrival"? At least the fatal shooting that left two people dead continued with the fact that one individual was only injured. Might make that sentence structure slightly acceptable. But 'pronounced deceased'? More like, was DOA.

Good news is that we are a long way from Chicago - they are working on their 7th dozen for the week.

Mayor Baby Chuck can keep saying Jackson is a safe city
all he wants but the facts tell a different story.
There are many more violent crimes that never
make the news. Jackson is finished until new
leadership is elected. Unfortunately that will not
happen until the uneducated population changes.
Anybody see that happening anytime soon?

I enjoyed the video of the white guy in sunglasses pleading with the whole metro area to do something to stop violence. She said he did not know what the solution was and I wonder if he is clueless as to what the problem is? I sort of know, well kind of and I have to clue as to how to solve it.

Fatal = DRT = Dead Right There (x2)

I didn't think this kind of violence was supposed to happen in Mayor Chokwe's Marxist Utopia. What's up with that?

Seems like I remember MIKE HURST (US Attorney) promising to make Javkson safe again. Well I guess HURST is failing. Empty political promises.

Goggle streetview makes it look like a neighborhood going somewhere.

As long as you are not in a gang or in the drug trade, Jackson is pretty safe place relatively speaking. These homidicides (97%) are anything but random. When you are in the game, this is always an option. I will be much more alarmed if lots of random acts of violence start happening but there is no reason to think that will.

One of the news stories said January - April has seen the most murders since statistics started being kept. It's reminding me of the late 80's and early nineties crime spike.

Since many of you are working with very little common sense, just look at the damn area, Bailey Ave & Ridgeway, nothing but drug activity. You can pretty much do whatever you want in Jackson, if you want to go looking for trouble, it will find you.

But if you are not looking for trouble and minding your own business, you can go wherever around here.

This wasn't a random shooting between unfamiliar people.

Look... me and the McDonald's people got this little misunderstanding. See, they're McDonald's... I'm McDowell's. They got the Golden Arches, mine is the Golden Arcs. They got the Big Mac, I got the Big Mick. We both got two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, but their buns have sesame seeds. My buns have no seeds.

Now I'm branching out into BBQ with my cousin Skonny McDowell. Should be no problem at all.

Conflict resolution is a huge issue in Jackson. So sad.

With 8 out of 10 babies born to unwed, already impoverished mothers...no programs, grants, initiatives, handouts, protest marches, civil rights museums, etc, etc are going to change anything. It is what it is. KF had an earlier post citing statistics from the MS Dept of Health. It's actually gotten worse over the past two decades. So much for throwing money after this problem, it simply doesn't work. Move the Capitol to Brandon and let Jackistan rot. Maybe even need to build a wall!

Can one really get BBQ at 1:30 am?

Speaking of working with little common sense...

I again refer to a comment from Nia Umoja at a city council meeting two weeks ago:

We also need to take command of the narrative that is perpetuated on our place. Folks that don't live here do not have the right to character assassinate our home or position a narrative based on their own fears and misconceptions.

Since then, four people have been murdered in West Jackson and shots were fired at a memorial for one of the deceased. Facts are annoying, right Nia?

I thought that was the stupidest comment of the year, until someone in this thread said that Jackson is safe except for the gangs and the drugs. Congrats on out-stupiding everyone, Bozo!

7:57 nailed it. There is no listing anywhere for a Skonny's BBQ, but another story listed that exact address as 3115 Baily Avenue. Take a lookat what's actually at that address. What BBQ business... or any other kind of restaurant/business... operates with no sign or any other identification on the front? Looks like there is maybe some kind of small, hand written sign on the front door, behind the heavy security door.

The apparently still operating convenience/grocery next door to the left is heavily secured as well. That's the NW corner of the intersection of Baily and Ridgeway btw.

"Move to Jackson they said. It has very low crime, they said."

"This wasn't a random shooting between unfamiliar people."

Exactly, and they almost never are. As long as you aren't in the "game" in Jackson, your chances of being involved in something like this are not too bad. Things improve even more as you move to the "better" parts of town. Yes there are random robberies, and have been some murders, but the vast majority of the killing is soldier on soldier.

Anonymous said...

"The identities of the victims have not been confirmed." How many people moving around town, getting shot, carry no identification?

12:30, you seem to be okay with "random robberies" and "some murders", too.

12:30, you seem to be okay with "random robberies" and "some murders", too.

What are you going to do when they are random? Murder is going to happen every day. 9 times out of 10 its going to be done by a familiar person - whether its your children, spouse, neighbor, co-worker, cousin, the list is endless.

I've lived in a city with a population of 10 million and I find it comical how the suburbanites are so dramatic over the crime in Jackson.

2:20 PM/2:12 PM/7:57 AM/7:42 AM/Donners;

I, too, lived in a city with 10 million and random crime is not something at which to shrug one's shoulders and say "Well, shit happens so get over it, [name of group you look down upon]". Your attitude, I take it, is one of you don't care and, I would guess, you truly think nothing could be wrong.

A city of 170,000, statistically, should not have as much violent crime as this place - period - but when it is filled with people who don't consider it to be a bad thing, I suppose the numbers speak for themselves.

The second-worst part of it all is that a cognizant human being thinks it's all fine and immediately tries to turn attention to insulting people who DO think that the issue a problem.

When someone near and dear to you is lost because of random violent crime, your view may change.

Messick said...

7:42 AM & all the Donners on here;

Do you remember the sport fisherman murdered in cold blood in the motel parking lot several years back?
Do you remember the JFP howling that it wasn't a bit deal due to media coverage?
Do you remember them saying it was only to be expected because this is a city and to "deal with it"?
Do you remember the JFP lashing out at the victim's family?
Do you remember them saying because it was a 'botched' robbery that it was okay and not at all random?
Do you recall them pushing the 'perception of crime' narrative, even though people are murdered at high rate in Jackson?

THE MAYOR WOULD DO WELL TO EXAMINE THE MODEL OF REDEEMER PRES. CHURCH ON NORTHSIDE DRIVE.
GOD IS AT WORK CHANGING HEARTS AND LIVES REGARDLESS OF RACE , SOCIO ECONOMIC STATUS , ETC. THOSE PEOPLE
THERE PRAY, LOVE AND WORSHIP IN SPITE OF THEIR DIFFERENCES. THEY ALL SERVE THE SAME AWESOME GOD.
JACKSON NEEDS REVIVAL. IT MAY SOUND TRIVIAL TO A NON BELIEVER, BUT NOTHING IS TO BIG FOR GOD. WE MUST
CONTINUE TO PRAY WITHOUT CEASING.
JACKSON CAN ONCE AGAIN BECOME THE CROSS ROADS AND SHOWPLACE OF THE SOUTH.

4:47 - I DO remember the Professional Bass Fisherman being murdered at Motel 6. I have posted about that fifteen times in the past two years but Kingfish always culls my post. I am still confused as to why he does that.

What struck me was that neither the mayor nor the chief of police, both newly elected, attended the opening event at the Reservoir or made public statements regarding this murder.

Apparently Kingfish didn't find that alarming or at least consequential.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
