The Justice Department issued the following statement.
MISSISSIPPI DOCTOR SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR BRIBERY
OF FORMER CORRECTIONS COMMISSIONER
Dr. Carl Reddix, 59, of Jackson, was sentenced today for paying bribes and kickbacks to former Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner (MDOC) Christopher B. Epps in exchange for receiving contracts involving the MDOC and its operations, announced United States Attorney Mike Hurst and FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Freeze.
Reddix was sentenced to serve 72 months in federal prison followed by 2 years of supervised release. He was also fined $15,000 and ordered to forfeit $1,266,438.00.
Reddix was a part owner of an inmate health care services provider known as Health Assurance, LLC.
Reddix began paying bribes and kickbacks to Epps in 2012 to obtain contracts for Health Assurance
to provide inmate health care services at East Mississippi Correctional Facility and Marshall County Correctional Facility. In 2013, Health Assurance obtained an additional contract to provide inmate health care services at Wilkinson County Correctional Facility. Reddix paid monthly bribes and kickbacks to Epps for these contracts and other potential contracts. When the scheme was discovered, Reddix had paid Epps a total of $187,500 in kickbacks. In return, Reddix and his company, Health Assurance, had obtained over $22 million in contracts with the MDOC.
“Today, justice was served. Dr. Carl Reddix personally bribed MDOC Commissioner Chris Epps at least
36 times over an approximately three-year period for numerous contracts worth millions of dollars.
This wasn’t a mistake or a one-time occurrence. Sadly, it was simply greed, coupled with
callousness for our government, public institutions and the criminal justice system,” said U.S.
Attorney Mike Hurst. “Those who allow greed and rapacity to corrupt our system of government and
rule of law will be held to answer for their crimes and wrongdoings. Today’s sentence illustrates
that the illegal sale of our jails will end in a jail cell.”
FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Freeze applauded the investigators and prosecutors, whose
hard work and determined efforts revealed these additional participants in this conspiracy of
public corruption and led to the sentence announced today.
Reddix is scheduled to report to prison on January 29, 2018.

Kingfish, any word on if & when Guy "Butch" Evans is going to get what he should have coming?
Not a bad gig when you consider the fact that he will be housed, fed and receive free medical treatment for the 6 years before Social Security retirement "benefits" kick in, the 1.27 million dollars is probably scratch compared to what he squirreled away somewhere probably in CD's returning 0.00001% interest while he is on "vacation". And as for his last name, he probably won't be too "popular" with the other inmates that don't like to get a temporary medical "discharge".....
good news, better news would be that Cecil reported to prison.
Good man going to jail, I am sure he will be productive while he's do his time.
Not to worry, 11:25....He can sign up to be in charge of The Digital Clinic near the laundry. Your dismissive attitude is sick.
Just to be clear here. The Facilities have the name county in them but are not part of the county government. These are state owned and run and not county. Just want to be clear because this is dirty dealings and the state seems to have a lot of that going on right now.
"Good man going to jail" 11:25? No, a crook going to jail. Hood men don't bribe public officials to make themselves (and the officials) rich of of your and my tax dollars. Although, since you think he's such a good guy, maybe you are part of the 50% thst don't pay taxes. That might tend to cloud your judgment
So does he get to keep the $20 million less the $1 million he returns? Hell, I'd spend 3 years in the slammer for $20million
At 59 years old 72 months is no joke. But this proves once again that while ordinary crime doesn't pay, white collar crime does. What ever happened to the utility contractor in Gulfport that was bribing public officials. Don't think he got any time at all. Anyone know?
$22m in contracts does not equate to $22m in his pocket. Did you all not learn a lesson from the lemonade stand?
And this was investigated by the "in tatters' FBI? Trump is so full of shit and the ignorant republican disciples of Hannity and Piro blindly follow. People should wise up that he only cares about himself and no one else in the whole wide world. He would lead 1,000,000 US citizens to the slaughter house before he would even mess up his hideous head of hair! People wake up!
@1:32 pm... I was wondering about Butch as well.... posters on this forum seem in large part not be a fan... Is he kind of a jerk or what??
