The killer of 80 year-old Janie Fullilove pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Hinds County Circuit Court last August. A Hinds County grand jury indicted him for capital murder in 2013 after she was shot and beaten to death in her back yard.

The beloved elderly lady worked for 54 years at Paul Moak Honda. Kennedy was her former neighbor on Merigold Drive in South Jackson. WAPT reported in 2013:
Authorities said Janie Fullilove's body was found Feb. 16 in the back yard of her home on Marigold Drive. The Hinds County coroner said she had been shot twice -- once in the back of the head and once in the stomach. She had also been hit with some type of object, police said. Fullilove's 2010 Volvo was also missing from her house, police said.Circuit Judge Winston Kidd sentenced Kennedy to serve twenty years in prison after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He also ordered Kennedy to receive treatment for alcohol and drug abuse, attend anger management class, and obtain a GED. He is not eligible for parole since the crime took place before HB #585 was passed although he will be eligible for earned supervised release in 2030. Judge Kidd gave him credit for time served in jail as he awaited trial. He will serve 17 years in prison after his sentencing.
A Jackson police detective testified during a court hearing Monday that Kennedy had six pieces of Fullilove's jewelry -- including a class ring that belonged to Fullilove's late son -- on him at the time of his arrest.
Kennedy was seen driving Fullilove's car the day before her body was found, police said. Kennedy's mother told police where to find him, the detective testified. He was arrested at the Westwick Apartments, where police also recovered Fullilove's car, authorities said.... article
Kingfish note: Kennedy was 17 years-old when he killed this lady. At best, he will be 37 years-old when he gets out of prison. So...... the District Attorney reduced this thug's charge to manslaughter, Judge Kidd approved the deal, and Kahlil will be on the streets before he turns 40. I can hear it now. You weren't there. JPD sucks. It's not our fault. JPD can't put a case together. Blah, blah, blah. It's never anyone's fault. Ever.
Neighbors held a "Stop the Violence" type rally near her home shortly after her murder. One must ask them how many of them voted to return these same judges and District Attorney to office. Did they expect a different result when they keep doing the same thing?

at least he got some time and not a blessing..
The parent(s) should be held accountable for any crimes committed by their child under the age of 18 (or 21...25...40).
They had him on capital murder but they let him off on this plea. Sends a wrong message.
The only positive in this story is the mother turning him in. Absolutely gut wrenching otherwise.
LOW LIFE POS!
Sometimes deals like this are in the interest of justice. I don't know anything about this particular case, but I heard about another case tried in another court room in Hinds County last year where the judge reportedly rejected a manslaughter plea from the defendant that could've resulted in significant prison time. After the judge rejected the deal, the case went to trial. The defendant was found not guilty and walked out the door. No blog posts on that one.
No blog posts on that one.
Instead of complaining why don't you summarize the case and post in a comment?
The DA & Judges are sticking it to the man.
Liberal Left Wing.
Stay out of of Jackson & Hinds County.
Let the thug life take over & see how long it takes for the peoples left in Hinds county will change their tune.
When the civil right museum opens in December protestors need to protest White lives matter in Mississippi.
These informative public service types of posts are good for all of us. When I went to Leadership Jackson many years ago, the same type of problems were happening in the courts. Judge Green hearing very few cases and accepting delays over and over. Plea bargaining with horrendous crimes to where the punishment did not fit the crime. Nevermind the horror of being beat to death. This one is ripe with "ageism" to me. (At 80 you don't have long to live so lets just accept manslaughter.) We need to defeat some judges and to replace the DA. Need to get the news out. I see that the CL has a great article on Eric Hambrick's killer today and the miscarriage of justice, albeit a week after JJ.
I can't justify this woman's death and I am not an advocate for the death penalty either. But I am an advocate for violent offenders receiving healthy sentences for committing heinous crimes. He should have received at least 30+ years for committing a crime this violent in nature. 20 years is a slap on the wrist in my humble opinion!
We have to get rid of Kidd and Green if Hinds County is ever going to stop the bleeding.
Chief Vance hit the nail on the head in the CL article.
20 years is a long time to spend in a little prison cell.
Take a look at the precincts that comprise Green and Kidd's districts. You'll NEVER get rid of them at the ballot box. They are in those seats for life if they choose to be. Kingfish needs to highlight the black murder victims whose killers received leniency from Green and Kidd. Unlikely either of them receive election challenges from candidates who promise tough-on-crime law and order justice. Nobody in the black community has the courage to say 'enough'.
Why we need to bring back public hanging.

Sad that is what it would take, but you do make a good point.
The legislature can change the law so the DA and judges have no choice but to sentence them for the crime they should be punished for. So why aren't we holding the legislature accountable? They have the ability to remedy this.
do you ever call the ADA on these cases, or attempt to contact them, for an explanation? sometimes there are valid reasons for deals like this one, and sometimes it is just a lazy prosecutor. if they don't return calls or emails, let them have it, no holds barred...
Can the Hinds County BOS change the election districts to get rid of these two hate merchants?
There is NO punishment strong enough that man can deliver to this murderer. Theft is bad enough. Murder is the ultimate crime. Add to it that the poor, innocent victim is an elderly lady, and that the coward shot her twice (once in the back of the head) AND beat her... God rest her sweet soul. May he suffer in hell.
Judges can't impose real sentences on these dangerous THUGS because our jails of full to over-flowing with decrepit old men who are being forced by our ridiculous "sex-offender" laws to serve every single HOUR of their sentences - no parole, no "time served" sentence reductions allowed. Yep. People in Mississippi are MORE AFRAID of the little old man who once exposed himself or the 21 year old young man who (GASP) had CONSENSUAL sex with his underage girlfriend than these murderous thugs that rule Hinds County. Really! All it takes to get elected for office in Mississippi is a promise to lobby for yet another sex-offender law! And, they deliver on their promises! But...there are consequences to this obsession. In order to make sure those (non-violent) sex-offenders serve every single HOUR of THEIR sentences, we HAVE to free up a jail cell for them by making MURDERS serve only 25% (or less) of THEIR sentences. We can't AFFORD to build more jails. We can't even afford to staff the ones we have. So we must CHOOSE which criminals need to be locked up and which ones should make their restitution is some other way. And we have chosen to let violent, low-life thugs roam our streets, robbing everyone in sight and shooting whomever gets in their way...over and over again....so that we can score political points and "feel safer" by keeping grandpa and Susie Q's boyfriend locked up for as long as humanly possible. So, stop complaining. It's working exactly like you ASKED for it to work.
Prosecutors are the least regulated and looked-at parts of our criminal justice system. They have enormous power and discretion. Some do a good job, and others not so much.
I would suggest checking your law or consult a lawyer before posting this misinformation.
585 placed a cap on the maximum amount of administrative reductions an offender could receive. Pre-585? No cap.
There is nothing in the law that requires a day for day sentence when it comes manslaughter.
4:25 You must be a registered sex offender... or a relative of one. I dare guess that this terrific injustice you speak of is one out of 10,000. Really has no bearing on this person's situation.
This is all thanks to the wonderful Hinds County voting population. Look at the elected officials they have selected, no hope for the future
So...... the District Attorney reduced this thug's charge to manslaughter, Judge Kidd approved the deal, and Kahlil will be on the streets before he turns 40. I can hear it now. You weren't there. What about it is what it is- I was told there was No confession- No eyewitness to the murder- No scientific evidence connecting him to the murder- What you have are circumstances that he had the car and had some jewelry- That just ain't enough for a Hinds County Jury- you therefore get what you can- Or try him on capital murder and lose- It is the lesser of two evils no doubt- But like the guy above said, go to trial when you have a deal on the table for 15 years and the Judge says No- So they tried it and lost and the Defendant walks away a free man- That is life in the Hinds County Courthouse-
Anger management? I did not realize that anger was the problem. I thought it was greed. Let's give this anger management a chance. It may b revolutionary.
This is actually consistent with a lot of the research showing that most people age out of violent criminal behavior around their 30s. Not sure if that is the case here, but it would make more sense to look at offenses based on the individual rather than a blanket sentence for everyone.
@4:26. The victims don't age out of being killed. Justice is for the innocent. Punishment is for the evildoer. The focus should not be on what is best for the killer.
