Funny how economics changes things. LSU is "working aggressively" to bring beer sales to Death Valley. The Baton Rouge Business Report reported today:
Limited beer sales in Tiger Stadium could become a reality by the start of the fall football season. LSU officials confirm that plans for a beer garden in the stadium are firming up, though the deal hasn’t been finalized yet.
“We are aggressively working to have it in place in the fall,” says LSU Spokesman Ernie Ballard. “But we are still working through everything to make it happen.”
LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva has said for years that he would like to bring beer sales to Tiger Stadium. In 2014, he told the Baton Rouge Press Club that “it’s going to happen at some point—I don’t know if it will be five years from now, 10 years from now.”... Rest of article.
About time. Once LSU starts this trend, how long will it be until Mississippi State and Ole Miss do something similar?

About as long as it takes Mississippi to get a lottery and wine in grocery stores. And championship football teams.
Since Mississippi State is located in a dry county, I'd say it's going to be awhile!
I remember when LSU came to Ole Miss, 2011 season, this one LSU girl was standin by the snack bar, took a long drag off her cig and gave me this look. Long story short, this girl didn't care about beer sales bein inside or out. They've got the system figured out pretty well as is, Ole Miss included.
Dummy at 9:40 - You can buy alcohol in Starkville all day long and twice on Saturday.
Beer sales at a football game in Baton Rouge. What could go wrong with that?
This state is so antiquated - but wants to be on the forefront of the nations economy.
Stop with these outdated social business practices.
It's self defeating.
We need to start having Sunday liquor sales, eliminate dry county's - because all people are doing is go to the neighboring county to buy the beer or liquor.
Marijuana - its here, its not going any where - might as well find ways to use it and create LEGAL GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT from it. Be on the forefront, not on the back burner.
Start being ahead of the curve, not behind it like always.
I've been to a number of sports events in Death Valley as well as home games of Tulane. Both are regularly littered with drunks. Might as well go ahead and make money off it.
Yes. We certainly need to get more alcohol into stadiums, along with legalizing drugs. Next to transgender bathrooms, I could not think of any more pressing issue for society. And, oh so good for our community! "Making money" is what's most important! LSU only profited $55 Million in football last year. Barely getting by, Boudreaux. This is a good thing.
"On June 4, 1974, the moribund Cleveland Indians hosted "10-Cent Beer Night" at Municipal Stadium, drawing 25,134 fans (or triple the team's per-game average of the previous season) to an otherwise meaningless game against the Texas Rangers. The lone restriction: Each fan was limited to six beers per visit to the concessions stand.
Whether streaking across the field or launching fireworks and other projectiles onto it, legions of emboldened fans disrupted play throughout the evening - between innings, between outs and eventually between pitches. In the bottom of the ninth, as the Indians rallied to tie the score, a fan rushed Rangers right fielder Jeff Burroughs, and a full-fledged riot ensued. An estimated 10,000 fans participated in the beer-soaked and blood-stained mayhem, which forced the home team to forfeit the game. Indians officials scratched future discount beer dates off the promotional schedule, but only after American League president Lee MacPhail intervened. "There was no question that beer played a great part in the affair," an understated MacPhail said at the time."
What could go wrong? Geaux Tigers! Hotty Toddy! Looking forward to beer gardens in Baton Rouge and Oxford. Or, will it be Biere Jardins? Great plan. Start with Six escalins biere night. It'll be swell.
No beer sales in the coliseum is one reason the minor league hockey team in Jackson folded.
Agree with 4:53. What could go wrong?

You are correct, Starkville is wet, but since MSU sits outside of Starkville in a dry county (Oktibbeha), you can't sell beer there. Should probably check your facts before trying to call names... Thanks for playing!
I'm sure the beers will be economically priced at about $10 per beer. This alone will keep people from getting hammered. The Saints and Tulane have always sold beer (and that devil liquor!) and I've never heard of any issues. Not to mention, the beer garden concept means that the drinks will not be in the stands, but will be in a controlled environment. Sounds like a reasonable accommodation to me.
Good Lawd... you Protestants and your sarcastic "what could go wrong here?" attitude.
The only thing that could go wrong is they don't sell out.
FWIW, the home stadium of those Mighty Couch Burnin' Mountaineers of West-By-God Virginia sells beer and lots of it.

Didn't mention Oktibbeha. The subject of the sentence was Starkpatch. Next time you find yourself in Starkville and unable to buy beer, lemme know and I'll give you five hundred bucks and a ride to the county line.
If I am not mistaken, I believe Millsaps has a "Beer Garden" at their home football games.
Why is it OK for the government to regulate morality? Morality is a personal and spiritual decision. I don't want the government in my religion or morality.
Last year Ohio State made over a million on beer sales alone at their stadium in it's first season to allow it. Of course, we could just wait for Hood to sue somebody else since that seems to be the State's only source of income these days.
LSU needs more booze like Oprah needs more doughnuts.
LSU made $55 million in profits on football last year. It's a stupid and childish economic argument that "sales" are going to help LSU. Sales are not profit. Do some research. Track down the cutouts for the distributor and vendor. Then see who they paid or wined and dined in the LA and MS legislature for this boondoggle. Major league is doing everything it can to reduce these alcohol problems, not grow them. Disingenuous. Look at the numbers.
See Forbes article: "Bottom line: alcohol sales can add revenue to athletic departments, but it's a drop in the bucket compared to major sources of revenue like television and contributions. For the most part, it's an enhancement to the fan experience.
The real money comes from leveraging the venue for other events and from the beverage companies themselves, not from fans shelling out $7.50 for a plastic cup of beer at a game."
IOTW, 1 million would be chump change to LSU football, if it even approached that (it won't). Exposure to liability, sharing with vendor, and other costs and risks can make it a money loser. The stadiums make booze money off of concerts or the distributor (as always via a lobbyist down at the Good Ole Boy Legislature).
So, 1 Million in SALES and how much will LSU get? 22% is standard. So, 220,000. Then add in an extra dozen campus police officers, 10 additional ushers and two security supervisors and you have nearly $50,000 in added expenses. Other startup costs associated with the installation of vending stations might total $15,000 as well. Take one lawsuit and it'll wipe out the whole year or 5 years "profit."
The bottom line is, just like Toll Roads, our Legislatures get lobbied, someone's wife gets a cush job, but the REAL reason is to open up OTHER 10, 20, 50 or 75 year contracts with lucrative payoffs, sometimes to foreign investors, and our stadiums, with all that great taxpayer big screen monitors, are just going to be used by crooked politicians to be prepped at OUR expense for lucrative concert gigs with booze flowing. That's what this is about. Not being able to get a crapft beer at Tiger Stadium with Rosaline on a few weekends in the fall.
Just like the Orange Beach Toll Road opened a 75 year payoff for an Australian company, prices unlimited. Then, they got toll roads law passed here, and offered a 2 Mile Toll Road to the airport. Do you understand why? Do we need a tollbooth when it's 2 miles free by Interstate now??? No. It's to grease the skids for more foreign investment with HUGE payoffs and statewide toll roads.
It's not about "dry laws" or "morality" or "the God Given Right to Get Blitzed and Call Women the C Word" on Sat. Night at Death Valley.
WAKE UP!!! Follow the money. DO you ask why we need ever bigger monitors? At both ends? And better sound systems? It's NOT for play by play, guys. Wake up.
Both states want to open rock concert stadiums at taxpayer expense. Not to "add to the 'fewtbawl' 'experience.'" They could care less about you and have you paying out the nose already for a seat.
And when you look at taxpayer losses for professional sports stadium subsidies, look at this boondoggle. And think about it. Same song, different stadium. More of that good ole "job creation" and "financial innovation." Tax dodges. Sweetheart behind closed door deals. And more drunks on the roads to run down girls on US 6. What an added benefit.
"No beer sales in the coliseum is one reason the minor league hockey team in Jackson folded. "
The owner going to jail (Bye, Bernie!) might have had just a little bit more to do with it....
@2:29 - Ebbers sold his stake in the bandits over a year before he was convicted. Declining attendance and revenue is what killed the team.
The 'government' is not 'legislating morality'. The government is only mandating certain impediments to curtail anticipated rowdy behavior. The 'government' could care less about your morals. The 'government' simply knows that intoxicated people at sporting events will result in accidents and deaths.
3:38 The timing is really immaterial. It was his love of owning a hockey team that subsidized the Bandits until his money disappeared.
Hey what happened with the drunk chick that rumbled with the cops in Tigger stadium last year?
Louisiana has always been on the very cusp of cutting edge stuff. I look for 'free shank' day at Angola to be passed by the legislature down there any time now.
