Hood busts more bars in Oxford and Picayune

The press releases are flying today. Attorney General Jim Hood issued the following press release:

Local Oxford and Picayune Restaurants and Bars
Receive Six Total Citations for Selling Alcohol to Minor

Investigators with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Alcohol & Tobacco Enforcement Division recently conducted alcohol and beer compliance checks in Oxford and Picayune resulting in the issuance of six total citations for selling alcohol to minors.

In Oxford on October 23, the following businesses received citations when checked for compliance on selling alcohol to minors:

Frank & Marlees                      1210 Harrison Avenue            2 VIOLATIONS
Rib Cage of Oxford                 311 South Lamar Boulevard     VIOLATION    2nd Offense w/in a year
Soulshine Pizza Factory         308 South Lamar Boulevard      VIOLATION

The following businesses in Oxford did not receive a citation when checked for compliance on selling alcohol to minors:

4 Corner Chevron                               502 South Lamar Boulevard
Double Quick #24                               1401 Jackson Avenue
Kendall’s Gas Mart                             1455 South Lamar Boulevard
Lamar Express                                   1448 South Lamar Boulevard
Lamar Lounge                                     1309 North Lamar Boulevard
Levee of Oxford                                 1008 Jackson Avenue
Proud Larry’s                                      211 South Lamar Boulevard
Sky Mart Grocery                               825 College Hill Road
Spot Store                                           1438 North Lamar Boulevard
The Corner Bar                                   1002 Jackson Avenue East

The following businesses in Oxford did not let anyone under the age of 21 inside:

Funkys                                                1012 Jackson Avenue
Rooster’s Blues House                       114 Courthouse Square
The Round Table on the Square        132 Courthouse Square
The Library                                          120 South 11th Street
The Oxford Cellar                               135 South 10th Street

Attorney General Hood pre-warns, “If you sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 21, you will pay a stout fine to the State between $500-$1,000 for a first offense, and if you continue to sell you could lose your permit to sell and possibly face a fine of $1,000-$2,000, and up to a year in jail. We appreciate the support and commitment of local law enforcement agencies, and I am certain that our combined efforts will vastly help reduce the sale of alcohol to underage drinkers.”

"At the core of this law is the safety of our young people. It simply states that it is illegal in Mississippi to sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 21,” said Attorney General Jim Hood.

In Picayune on October 21, the following businesses received citations when checked for compliance on selling alcohol to minors:

Applebee’s                                          715 Memorial Boulevard                    VIOLATION
El Mariachi                                          1210 S. Hough Avenue                      VIOLATION

The following businesses in Picayune did not receive a citation when checked for compliance on selling alcohol to minors:

The Italian Grill                                    1702 Hwy. 11
Rio Grand Grill                                    1413 Armand Drive

“We conduct alcohol checks frequently,” said Attorney General Hood. “In these routine checks, we issue citations to bartenders or servers. We like to keep vigilance high, particularly in college towns, but also in surrounding areas, that we are out enforcing our state’s alcohol and tobacco laws statewide.”

Attorney General Hood concludes, "The Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement Division provides training for staff and management of any retail establishment which sells alcohol.  I urge business owners and managers to contact my office, and ask for on-site training. The lives of our children and loved ones are at risk whenever alcohol consumption and driving are mixed.  Other dangers include binge or excessive drinking which can also result in overdose, an accident or injury. Retailers who are vigilant in following the law can significantly improve a safe environment for all."

During the past fiscal year, the Attorney General’s Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement Unit has conducted more than 6,000 compliance checks with 203 buys for a 3.28% buy rate across the state.

Jim Hood is keeping Mississippi safe.

He needs to give himself a citation for giving away contracts to his friends who fund his campaign--- if he actually went after criminals, his campaign funds would dry up...#notgoodwithhood

Remember...Hood has to take care of "family". That's right. I'm talking about you, Dickie.

accoding to the NOLA weebsite Applebees in Metairie, LA. also got a citation in a sting operation and faces a hearing in early November, Sounds like corporate needs to lay th elaw down before the real law gets involved.

Odd how Hood doesn't deploy his dragnet inside Jackson. Hmmm, wonder why?

Is this a priority for the AG's office? Don't local police have the authority and ability for handling these misdemeanors.

Gosh, I wish Hood had been around to protect me back in 1974 when I was 18 and drinking legally.

This press release is BS! Funky's and Roosters are known 21 under bars. BTW, just for you outsiders, The Library in Ox has an under 21 section. I'm tired of Hood's BS!

Hood (perfect name for a democrat atty gen!) is looking pretty desperate.

Another intelligence test for voters. I have no idea if his challenger is worthwhile but he could not likely be worse.
Term limits help the public; keep politicians unemployed when possible.

Where was Hood when the MDOC, Auditor and FBI were busting the Alcorn County jail for criminal activity?

Thank goodness he's 'law enforcing' elsewhere. Last time he visited his buddy up in Greenwood and hid under a desk during a murder-for-hire scheme to protect the friend. We ended up with one of the supposed hired killers shot dead supposedly by state agents - and still don't have the facts of the case of the murderous doctor/lawyer feud. But Hood had his friend's back I guess. Hood has a serious image problem, and the problem lives in his head. He be thinkin' he's a wild west sheriff.

I'm good with Hood !

All the political corruption in Mississippi & he is invading local authority that apparently called into question.
But a lot of these kids r out of state or thankful parents with check books. All of these corrupt politicians have votes.

Yawn...Mike Hurst would have found more.

Who thinks his tractor's sexy? He moved out of the fried-chicken capital of the South and has gained 25 pounds.

His ads indicate Hurst thinks he's running for federal office !

He also seems to think Obama will still be President if he's elected!

He isn't running on going after crime and corruption in MS.

He thinks he'll be elected on being a TP candidate!

His ads ought to insult every Mississip0ian as it's clear he thinks we are stupid!

I don't like Hood but at least he knows what job he's running to fill!

8:50 - you must be looking at a totally different set of ads. His entire campaign has been based on going after crime and corruption, which does include public officials. The fact that over the past decade the only prosecutors that have gone after that crime has been the feds, doesn't mean that it is a federal office. And while Obama will be president for one year after the election, the policies that have been put into place that affect the state will still be there. Obama doesn't have to occupy the Oval Office for Obamacare, EPA overregulation, and the other issues that our current AG has decided not to fight - because he would rather spend his time suing Google on behalf of his financiers and their civil suit.

The difference is that the AG is NOT the statewide DA, which is what Hood would have you believe, and what his ads lead one to believe.

Hurst damn sure aint a TP candidate - just because he is a good conservative that is against federal overreach doesn't make him a TP. Most all Republicans are against the same overreach - not just the nutjobs.

9:03 hope your comment was as sarcasms. only way it makes sense.
apparently you do not watch news or look around--safe really??
I am sure all the press releases from the AG office is not at all related to the election.

He needs to give himself a citation for giving away contracts to his friends who fund his campaign--- if he actually went after criminals, his campaign funds would dry up...#notgoodwithhood

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
