Carson is in.

The Jackson Free Press reported:

Today, Jackson attorney Dorsey R. Carson, Jr. announced that he will be running for city council to represent Ward 1 and replace Quentin Whitwell, who resigned earlier this month.

“After much thought, consideration and prayer with our family and friends, I am proud to announce my candidacy for Jackson City Council, representing Ward 1. Having lived most of my life in Northeast Jackson, I have never seen our city so poised for growth and prosperity as it is right now. I will use my talents to help us seize this unique opportunity, and will fight for all of our people and businesses. We humbly ask for your support in our work and campaign, and for your vote in the special election," Carson said.

Mr. Carson is also the lawyer for the JFP.

1. The fact that he announced at the JFP and not at JJ tells a lot about who DC really is.

2. NEJ needs a Republican councilman that has contacts, or can make contacts with our Congressional delegation, not just BT.

3. Word on the street is he is lukewarm on the lake project. We can't afford lukewarm. We must have a soldier.

Please someone with a "RED" background run....Pharr....Ditto....Hederman

Step up!

Why would he want it - the votes going to be 6-1 like it always is!

Anonymous said...

As long as he is healthy. We can't afford for any Councilperson to resign mid-term for 'health reasons'.

Anonymous said...

Pharr - Red ?? Surely you jest.

Ditto is a stretch, but Pharr as a Repub?

Agree with your sentiment, though. Need a Repub from NE Jxn.

Word on the street is that 85% of Jackson is lukewarm about the lake.

Legit Question said...

What does being the atty for JFP have to do with anything? If there's an attorney for Jackson Jambalaya, should we hold it against him/her?

Johnny Weir said...

The lake project would really turn Jackson around. NE Jackson tax base carries the rest of Jackson. Chris McDaniel need to run for the job.

85% of Jackson is lukewarm on lots of things that would be good for the city - public safety, education, honesty and transparancey in government.... want me to keep on going.

But the part of Jackson that has a vested interest in seeing it remain a viable capitol city is not lukewarm about most of the above, including the lake.

Dorsey could be a strong supporter of the lake if he could get his client, Rudy Warnock, down to do the engineering - hell, he doesn't have to do the engineering work, just let Warnock get his claws into the project to get some money to pass around (and to put gas in his Bentley) and he would be happy. And Dorsey would be head over heels for the lake.

I heard that Adam Hamby was going to run.

I did heard Mathew Poole was running to !

More a case of the JFP not disclosing the relationship. I gave the Columbus newspaper grief once for the same thing.

Maybe they could do for the One Lake project what they did for Sulphur Springs.

or the airport.

The problem with Dorsey, Matt, et al is they are nice guys but they never stand up to the Bennie machine.

What has Dorsey done professionally or personally to benefit Jackson?

Anonymous said...

Carson's big time advantage is that he's recently run a hard race in all the Ward 1 precincts save for a couple and won more Republican votes than many in the GOP dare to admit. If there are 3 or more candidates in this special Carson makes the run-off.

Anonymous said...

What has Dorsey done professionally or personally to benefit Jackson?

Easily as much as Weill had done before his first Council run in the special to replace Mr. Near-Stroke.

For all you chicken shit bloggers who choose to sit on the bench and criticize those that dare to get out their and make a difference like Dorsey is trying to do have no concept of leadership. You were probably the P***Y boys that got beat up in school and were never man enough to stand up for a damn thing. I applaud Dorsey for stepping up for Jackson. Now all you wanna be bitches need to put up or shut up. You go Dorsey!

Johnny Weir said...

I will vote for him. I WANT MY LAKE! Especially with the sewer water from Jackson will make the catfish very tasty. Yum. Yum.

5:18 PM obtained his talking points from the TP selection committee who are looking to recruit paranoid radio personalities obsessed with party purity and who prefer self-destruction to cooperating with centrists.

Anonymous said...

Like his politics or not, I applaud Dorsey for getting involved. It's like jury duty- lots of us bitch about our system but few (including me) want to spend the time to fight to fix it. Like Dorsey's politics or not, he should be commended for considering.

As to the draft David Pharr movement- what a remarkably capable person in every respect. We would be lucky- but how he or Dorsey would deal with Mrs. Stokes is beyond me. Maybe big hats???

Anonymous said...

I like Dorsey personally.

But I sincerely hope a strong Republican runs against him. Poole and Hamby aren't the answers.

Dorsey is democrat. He'll bend and roll over to the Bennie machine to stay in its good graces.

Anonymous said...

Dorsey's just shut out all the clowns that were on the bubble about getting into the race.

If a big Republican steps out that means he or she probably has already secured (or personally has) the money to whip his butt. That's who Dorsey should worry about.

Whether or not that person exist is another issue.

KF, can you disambiguate this post-title, or at least the blurb, a wee little bit?

I thought you about to tell me Ben Carson had officially announced he was running for president in 2016.

Anonymous said...

Trust me. If he is a friend of Rudy Warnock, Jackson certainly does not need him. If Jackson thinks that they have money issues now, just wait until Rudy gets his millions off of the top. I live in Madison and speak from experience.

Dorsey is a plaintiff attorney that is one step away from back of phone book.

Anonymous said...

On a personal level, I like Dorsey. He's a nice guy.

But that said, I don't think I want him as a member of my city council. My impression is that he wants to do what feels good or sounds good, not necessarily what makes sound policy or feasible economic decisions.

I recall on the facebook page for the grandmother or aunt of the young girl who was bitten by the pit bull, the KFC scandal, he wrote a post to the family telling them he was a lawyer and that he wanted to represent them to go after the evil KFC for the way they treated her. But of course we all know how that turned out. Dorsey was too quick to rush to judgement and ready to sue KFC before investigating the full facts. We don't need someone on our council who rushes to judgment or makes decisions without knowing the full story and without doing his/her due diligence.

Nice guy, good volunter, but not a great leader.

Ward 1 has a ever-growing black population. Don't expect a Republican to be a shoo-in. Plus, Dorsey built up a lot of name-identification and good-will in the community in that ward in his last run. He will be a formidable candidate. Also, doesn't Jonathan Lee live in that ward? Anyone heard from him?

Anonymous said...

Who is planning to run on the other side? When will the election be held?

Anonymous said...

Other side? It is a non-partisan special election. One ballot of all candidates.

Anonymous said...

Is Wilson Carroll a candidate? I remember his race for DA several years back.

Anonymous said...

I know Rudy personally and wonder why he even puts up with all the Political BS. He inherited almost $20million last year. If it were me I would tell all you haters to kiss my ass and find a peaceful island somewhere.

Anonymous said...

1:02, if he takes your advice and starts looking for an island, I would suggest he begin his Google search for one that does not allow for extradiction.

Wilson Carroll lives in Ward 7.

Hamby is hothead, big McDaniel supporter if you have seen some of his posts on social media, he has too much of a paper trail to be a viable candidate. Some of his posts make him look like an idiot. Running in an area that went 80/20 for Cochran, he wouldn't have a chance.

Anonymous said...

Hamby was shilling for Childers on his FB page. Not a good move in NE Jackson

KaptKangaroo said...

i'm with Weir on this one... Who needs to vote for the lake when one spouts up daily from underground routed through a park and into your front yard. Fact is, city council is nothing more than a collection of fools with no real influence, say or sense.

Anonymous said...

Jackson can't remotely pay for the Consent Decree and the recently passed special tax only makes a small dent in the money required. Once crews start replacing the sewer and water piping underground the surprises that will be found will blow all the cost projections out of the water. City Hall can only tax a rapidly declining tax base so much before sending even the city stalwarts heading out of town. Detroit status can't be avoided without bankruptcy or takeover by the State.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
