Obama lied while your health insurance died. That is the headline of the week. How many times did the President say "you will keep your health insurance" and "your premiums will not increase."? Just in case you forgot, here is a reminder:
Now, here is what the federal register said on page 34552 on June 17, 2010:
Under this assumption, the Departments’ mid-range estimate is that 66 percent of small employer plans and 45 percent of large employer plans will relinquish their grandfather status by the end of 2013. The low-end estimates are for 49 percent and 34 percent of small and large employer plans, respectively, to have relinquished grandfather status, and the high-end estimates are 80 percent and 64 percent, respectively.
Avik Roy penned a few thoughts about these discrepancies in Forbes:
On Tuesday, White House spokesman Jay Carney attempted to minimize the disruption issue, arguing that it only affected people who buy insurance on their own. “That’s the universe we’re talking about, 5 percent of the population,” said Carney. “In some of the coverage of this issue in the last several days, you would think that you were talking about 75 percent or 80 percent or 60 percent of the American population.” (5 percent of the population happens to be 15 million people, no small number, but let’s leave that aside.)
Ah yes, its only 5%. Its only 15 million people. Apply that logic to 50 years ago. Why fight segregation? Those blacks are only 5% of the population or so. Its just a small minority of Americans suffering such injustice. Whats the big deal? Such is the case when morality is governed by situational ethics. Mr. Roy continues:
But Carney’s dismissal of the media’s concerns was wrong, on several fronts. Contrary to the reporting of NBC, the administration’s commentary in the Federal Register did not only refer to the individual market, but also the market for employer-sponsored health insurance.Too bad the employer mandate was delayed a year. That is when we will hear some real screaming. It will only get worse.
Section 1251 of the Affordable Care Act contains what’s called a “grandfather” provision that, in theory, allows people to keep their existing plans if they like them. But subsequent regulations from the Obama administration interpreted that provision so narrowly as to prevent most plans from gaining this protection.
“The Departments’ mid-range estimate is that 66 percent of small employer plans and 45 percent of large employer plans will relinquish their grandfather status by the end of 2013,” wrote the administration on page 34,552 of the Register. All in all, more than half of employer-sponsored plans will lose their “grandfather status” and get canceled. According to the Congressional Budget Office, 156 million Americans—more than half the population—was covered by employer-sponsored insurance in 2013.
Another 25 million people, according to the CBO, have “nongroup and other” forms of insurance; that is to say, they participate in the market for individually-purchased insurance. In this market, the administration projected that “40 to 67 percent” of individually-purchased plans would lose their Obamacare-sanctioned “grandfather status” and get canceled, solely due to the fact that there is a high turnover of participants and insurance arrangements in this market. (Plans purchased after March 23, 2010 do not benefit from the “grandfather” clause.) The real turnover rate would be higher, because plans can lose their grandfather status for a number of other reasons.
How many people are exposed to these problems? 60 percent of Americans have private-sector health insurance—precisely the number that Jay Carney dismissed. As to the number of people facing cancellations, 51 percent of the employer-based market plus 53.5 percent of the non-group market (the middle of the administration’s range) amounts to 93 million Americans.
President Obama’s famous promise that “you could keep your plan” was not some naïve error or accident. He, and his allies, knew that previous Democratic attempts at health reform had failed because Americans were happy with the coverage they had, and opposed efforts to change the existing system.
Now, supporters of the law are offering a different argument. “We didn’t really mean it when we said you could keep your plan,” they say, “but it doesn’t matter, because the coverage you’re going to get under Obamacare will be better than the coverage you had before.”
But that’s not true. Obamacare forces insurers to offer services that most Americans don’t need, don’t want, and won’t use, for a higher price. Bob Laszewski, in a revealing blog post, wrote about the cancellation of his own health coverage. “Right now,” he wrote, “I have ‘Cadillac’ health insurance. I can access every provider in the national Blue Cross network—about every doc and hospital in America—without a referral and without higher deductibles and co-pays.”
But his plan is being canceled. His new, Obamacare-compatible plan has a $500 higher deductible, and a narrower physician and hospital network that restricts out-of-town providers. And yet it costs 66 percent more than his current plan. “Mr. President,” he writes, “I really like my health plan and I would like to keep it. Can you help me out here? Rest of article

The President of the United States is a pathological liar.
Saw an interesting show the other day. Guys from Penn and NC. Both said 64,200 income they get tax incentives and will bring their health insurance to 350 bucks. One penny more and it goes to 1200. That's a month. Plus either way it's higher deductible higher co pay and less options on service providers. They both liked the plan they had before. People who didn't have health insurance before can't afford 350 or more a month. Liberals don't care what you do as long as it's mandatory. Obama made it sound like to these poor fools they were going to get free health care. Ain't happening. Said you could keep your doctor and your plan of you chooses. Ain't happening. Read WAKING THE SLEEPING GIANT book. It's explains why liberals must lie to get ahead.
This would be a better post if its title didn't despicably equate thousands of dead Americans sacrificed to lies about WMD, with some people having to pay more for (usually better) insurance v
A liberal and a cop were having a discussion one day about obamacare. The cop said he liked his health care plan. It was affordable and met all his family's needs, but now his insurance company was dropping him cause his plan didn't meet the govt standard. The liberal said he agreed with Obama. That the cops plan just wasn't good enough. That Obama and other like-minded liberals knew what was best for the cop and his family. The cop sat there for a second and asks the liberal to come closer. He pulled out his night stick and started beating the liberal over the head. While he was wailing away on the liberal he asked, would you like me to continue to decide what's best for you or would you rather make that decision on your own?
Wait till the changes in the employer sponsored plans take place. There are going to be a lot of pissed off people then.
10:56 Fortunately October 1, 2014, falls just five weeks before the Congressional elections.
If Obama moves that deadline back a month to protect Dems in congress the Repubs should campaign on nothing else for those five weeks.
... with some people having to pay more for (usually better) insurance
You probably also support forced lobotomies.
There is an interesting article in today's WAPO talking about how the Obama Healthcare exchange if viewed through reality-baed economic terms would have amounted to the biggest business start-up in US history. It was left in the hands of a bunch of government-employees who have had ZERO private sector business experience. Reminds me of back home here where Phil Bryant has had little to none private experience in his life trying to interfere with the BC/BS-HMA matter. Nothing but pure disaster, incompetent disaster, and we pay the price daily
“They were running the biggest start-up in the world, and they didn’t have
anyone who had run a start-up, or even run a business,” said David Cutler,
a Harvard professor and health adviser to Obama’s 2008 campaign, who was
not the individual who provided the memo to The Washington Post but
confirmed he was the author. “It’s very hard to think of a situation where
the people best at getting legislation passed are best at implementing it.
They are a different set of skills.”
The President lying and the problems with the exchange are truly the very tip of a horrendous iceberg. A friend of mine had insurance through Prudential vi a national professional organization. All those policies were cancelled and she is looking for insurance. She thought the exchange might be the way to go. She went on the web site and found two options for Mississippi, Magnolia plans and Humana plans. "Oh, good," she thought, until she tried to find out whether UMC, St. D's or Baptist was signed up with either and whether her doctor was signed with either. No.
This is the beginning of a nightmare.
Even the Associated in-the-tank-for-Obama Press can no longer avoid reporting on the impending economic disaster.
But the 64-year-old recently received a letter notifying him the plan was being canceled because it didn't cover certain benefits required under the law.
The Griffins, who live near Philadelphia on the Delaware border, pay $770 monthly for their soon-to-be-terminated health care plan with a $2,500 deductible. The cheapest plan they found on their state insurance exchange was a so-called bronze plan charging a $1,275 monthly premium with deductibles totaling $12,700. It covers only providers in Pennsylvania, so the couple wouldn't be able to see the doctors in Delaware whom they've used for more than a decade.
.....
Because of the higher cost, the Griffins are considering paying the federal penalty - about $100 or 1 percent of income next year - rather than buying health insurance. They say they are healthy and don't typically run up large health care costs. Dean Griffin said that will be cheaper because it's unlikely they will get past the nearly $13,000 deductible for the coverage to kick in.
ObamaCare (ACA) is designed to intentionally fail! Failure will then allow for a total government take over of our healthcare system, which is 20% of GDP!
Great analogies here. Wait until the death panels kick in; then they will really decide what is best for us. Permanently. Guess I need to start voting for the Democrats, become a Democrat financial contributor, stop going to church because Christians are just crazy, and stop making comments on public websites....Oops.
Mike the Mime on the Harry Reid/Barack Obama Plan to destroy healthcare in America.
"You probably also support forced lobotomies."
Nope. Too many GOP voters as it is.
3:27 pm Obamacare is the defacto death panel.
WSJ:
My grievance is not political; all my energies are directed to enjoying life and staying alive, and I have no time for politics. For almost seven years I have fought and survived stage-4 gallbladder cancer, with a five-year survival rate of less than 2% after diagnosis. I am a determined fighter and extremely lucky. But this luck may have just run out: My affordable, lifesaving medical insurance policy has been canceled effective Dec. 31.
My choice is to get coverage through the government health exchange and lose access to my cancer doctors, or pay much more for insurance outside the exchange (the quotes average 40% to 50% more) for the privilege of starting over with an unfamiliar insurance company and impaired benefits.
Do you now understand why DEFUNDING this crap was vital? Why specific congressional votes have been tracked? Can say one thing on your commercial or while you're smiling, waving, and kissing babies, but your VOTE represents what you do in DC.
Congressional members who voted against defunding this chose themselves over everyone else.
NOW WE KNOW… Obamacare Architect Ezekiel Emanuel: “Individual Insurance Market Is Going Away”
http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2013/11/obamacare-architect-ezekiel-emanuel-insurance-companies-see-the-future-the-individual-market-is-going-away-video/
The brothers Emauel come from a long line of dual citizenship advisors that surround both presidents Obama and Clinton. The father nof the three Emanuels was a mnember of Menachem Begin's terrorist organization, the Irgun, the perpetrators of the massacre of 254 Arab villagers at Deir Yassin in 1947. Their mother was a member of CORE.
The other brother, Ari, is a Hollywood talent agent that represents Michael Moore. Ari is associated with the William Morris talent agency, which was Trent Lott's agent, also.
