Supervisor Robert Graham called it a "difficult day". Jackie Anderson Woods announced at a press conference today her father, Hinds County District 2 Supervisor Doug Anderson, will resign from the Board of Supervisors on January 1, 2013. Mr. Anderson was not present.
Mrs. Woods said it was time "to take him back" as she cited health problems as the reason for his resignation. Mr. Anderson apparently suffered from two strokes. She said the family knew he was in ill health for a year. Mrs. Woods said his cognitive abilities were well but he had problems with speech. She said it was not "until after the primary election we saw the big change" and it was then he had a second stroke but there was not a "viable candidate" that could take his place.
Mrs. Woods said her father will support former Hinds County Justice Court Judge Joe Lewis to take his place. She said Mr. Lewis was not going to run for the seat until her father said he would support him. Mr. Lewis was disgraced and removed from the bench by the Commission on Judicial Performance several years ago. Mr. Graham said the board will appoint a replacement. If no consensus on a replacement can be reached, there will be an election on November 5, 2013. Mr. Anderson was not present at the press conference but will be at the regular meeting Monday.

In HindsCo that is a resume builder. Can't think of how the BOS could get a roster any stronger than Kenny Stokes, a police officer impersonator and a judge removed from the bench. Better start building a whole bunch more housing downtown because if Lewis gets elected the people are going to start flooding back into Jackustan.
