Nice.

Nice. They are finally tearing down my favorite home on Ridgewood Road. Most of the trees are now gone. Out of all the houses on Ridgewood, including a bunch of crappy worn-out ranch homes, they just had to pick the best one on the street. Let me guess. Patio homes or something similar. Got to love progress.

Update: Turns out its going to be a church. Wonderful.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING.

Off topic,

I had the pleasure of being within "ear shot" of some of Donna Ladd's intern crew
yesterday .

I swear they were going ballistic over the parade crowd .

They were talking about how Malcolm W . had F-cked over the SPQ's.

I could not believe what I was hearing ????

Did anyone else witness such nonsense ?

The house and five acres was sold to Grace Baptist Church. The house is being renovated and will be used as an education center. The front yard will be home to the Sanctuary at some point. Presently it looks like a bomb went off there but hopefully it will look better soon. Miss the Dogwood!!!!!It was beautiful in the Spring!!

Someone really needs to make sure Malcolm (or his staff) hears about that...

He must spend a killing on JFP weekly ads.

As badly as Jackson needs more dense upscale residential and now another church. Bad bad use of land!

I think that spq parade will be a flop. Those tired girls have had their run. Time to retire that act! Or at least it will be the beginning of the end! This Denegrate the men thing has gotten old, and that's all this whole spq thing is about.

Kingfish said...

Great. Every nice house becomes a church and nothing happens to the run-down ranch homes. I just love the way they butchered all the trees and ruined the property.

Anonymous said...

Grace Baptist Church is showing no grace to the original landscape. Just hack down the trees and go. Why do we need a church on Ridgewood Road? That area should have remained residential. Really, really bad use of land.

Anonymous said...

The damn SPQ's are the ones who split off, Malcolm didn't force them out!

@9:35....
Do you mean Donna Ladd? Donna Todd is the vet tech at the Jackson zoo.

KF ... please give us the
whole story on the 2 parades ?

It is tongue-in-cheek for Donna Ladd/Todd Stauffer - live-in couple extraordinaire.

that corner of briarwood and ridgewood is littered with makeshift churches they even tour neighborhoods spreading the word (door to door).

What am I missing? In this day and age with everything that is going on in the world, can we have too many churches?

Sorry guys but it may not be the dream house for you to look at for years to come but it is certainly being put to good use.

I have no affiliation with the church going in but I am amazed that you guys all find fault with someone using an old house to preach the word of God.

This world never ceases to amaze me. Some peoples ignorance also never ceases to amaze me.

Try to spend a little more time worrying about yourself instead of ridiculing others. You know, the glass houses thing.

Kingfish said...

Whatever. Just want I want to see. Ridgewood Road turning into West Jackson: only decent homes or buildings are churches and the rest run-down homes with plywood windows no one will buy.

Look at yourself if you want to start talking ignorance.

Anonymous said...

We will have to agree to disagree on this one Kingfish.

Your outlook is great if this house was going to be renovated for someone to live in.

What if instead of renovating and making it into a nice church property, which I am assuming they will do, they left it alone to rot like the rest of Jackson. Instead of the "only decent homes or buildings" being churches, there were no decent homes or buildings.

Just an odd outlook in my opinion. It is not like every other house on the street is being renovated to look nice. I do agree that it is a shame what they have done to the trees though, that was a great lot and house. I just don't understand the horror of having a church reside there.

Anonymous said...

Yep, just like West Jackson started out. Ridgewood will be just like W Capitol soon.

Think about it. How long do you really think a church will stay around there? Especially once the crime moves closer in with the residential houses being turned into unoccupied, part-time occupied buildings.

Now, every house around just dropped in value. Those new patio homes are doomed before they are even sold.

Just piss poor city planning, once again. Make an area so jumbled with residential/multi-family/apartments, high density, church/commercial and what do you expect?

West Jackson clone-to-be.

Kingfish said...

There are plenty of unoccupied buildings on I-55 N they could lease or purchase as well. I can think of half a dozen right off of the top of my head.

11:48 you are RIGHT ON. Only in a stupidly shortsighted, disfuntional city, would prime property be used for another tax free parcel, that does not HAVE TO abide by regularly accepted zoning principals, because it "is a church".

You are CORRECT. All of the propery surrounding this "church" has now cratered.

Anonymous said...

Only in a stupidly shortsighted, disfuntional [SIC] city ...

That about sums it up. And to think that some of Jackustan's "leaders", real, pretend and wannabe, believe the turnaround can be achieved with some slick new marketing campaign and copious amounts of tweets.

The house and property were on the market for years. The last couple of years on the market for a very reasonable price. Simply fact is no one wanted to purchased it for a residence due to the cost of renovating the once old farmhouse that had been added onto 5 times while I lived there.
It is sad that the trees were demolished; very sad. My Dad would have hated to see that, but show me a deed where the grantor can demand the grantee to preserve the poperty and I will eat your hat. (Hope you don't find that deed; don't like hats) FYI while the house was unoccupied it was broken into twice and the riding lawnmower was stolen. Yet that is just the way it is & Kingfish, if you should ever like to see a photo of the house & property during a Easter years ago with yellow white Dogwoods blooming and Camellias opened to their red radiance under the shadow of 100+ year old pine trees, I will send you one. Well that's all I can offer: memories!

Anonymous said...

Eight or 10 patio homes would have rocked. $250 to $350,000 range.

Anonymous said...

i agree 1:16. there are now three converted churches on that corner. I hate to bring race into it but i would bet $100 there is not one caucasion member in either one of those churches, which would make it of minority which means grants which means free and a paycheck

Jackson is swirling the drain and Whitwell inexplicably wastes time on non-urgent minutia like people selling animals. He should fit in real well with the other clowns on the Council.

Looks like Anthony Warren has blown the lid off the tight secrecy hiding the massive multi-million dollar operating losses of the downtown convention center from the public. Yet another Heywood Sanders prediction comes true.

While you are going back over to Romper Room, why don't you ask why they would attack an economic avenue that minorities are traditionally able to enter into business. I'm talking about mobile eateries.

12:35, thank you for sharing your memories. My father lost his place, the home and acreage we grew up on, to the Hwy 84 by-pass near Brookhaven. Such a beautiful home place it was. I say, he lost it, it was sold, but if not for that by-pass it wouldn't have been. A by-pass from exactly what to where, I don't really know, but now you have a really nice road to get there on anyway. Not a very interesting drive anymore, but the highway is very smooth and nice. They had to have been happy with that new highway.

The home on Ridgewood was in poor condition and would have been very expensive to renovate to live in. I live very close to what will be the new home for Grace Baptist Church -- and I am heartbroken that all the trees were cut down - apparently without much thought as to where the sanctuary will be. There are several beautiful homes on Ridgewood close to this property - and I don't think we need any more churches - although I am not opposed to churches, per se.

Also - NEITHER of the churches on Ridgewood go door to door preaching to people.

Anonymous said...

As far as the churches on Ridgewood being black churches - none of the 3 are.... I live in the neighborhood so I know this. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything anyway. Jackson is a majority black city -- I guess it is sort of strange to have 3 white churches on a city street... imagine that!

They most likely sold off all of the large trees to make $$$ to help with their expenses of aquiring a new location for a new facility. While it would be great to have seen someone purchase and rehab the home, it was probably the least likely scenario. New single family residences would have been good too, a lot more tax $$$ for the city leaders to piss away, but more tax dollars is not necessary what the city leaders need, remember that you can't out spend stupid. What needs to happen is for more citizens than not, need to be working and producing for themselves and less reliant on the government (all levels). Then a 'take no prisoners' approach to the crime in the city and create a master plan for new and redevelopment income producing projects. I was born and raised in Jackson, but have lived in Madison County for years. Still, when I travel and people ask where I am from, I tell them Jackson, MS. I still consider Jackson to be home and will support positive changes for the city in any way that I can.

11:55 - yes that would be strange dont know of many white urban make shift churches. And if your right ,which your not, about the other two i owe you $100. You may seek an ophthalmologists for some corrective surgery. i dont have a bunch of white people roaming my neighborhood spreading the word then getting conforntational when i ask them to leave my property... go by there at 12 or 12:30 on a sunday and get me a picture of these "so called" white people you see there????

Anonymous said...

yo! hop-a-long! just what in the heck is a "so called " white person?

Anonymous said...

Why are we not talking about our Spanish brothers? Why do we have to make it about black and white issues? Viva Taco Trucks!!!

Anonymous said...

it would be a satire for the "extinct" white people in jackson...DUMBASS. I know try to keep up or raise your hand and the teacher will slow down for you.

White churches won't last much longer in the city of Jackson. Classic examples:

Broadmoor Baptist. Now in Madison.
Colonial Heights Baptist. Ridgeland.
Parkway Baptist. Clinton.
Calvary Baptist. Still in Jackson, but membership declining.
First Jackson is, as far as I know, the only Baptist church in Jackson that has a thriving membership: and they don't do much for the community.

That's why I am still surprised the big Methodist church built out on Old Canton Road at Pear Orchard. Always seemed a strange place for it.

Joe Dan Draffen said...

First national baptist of Jackson already has their Madison campus established and it will serve as the place of refuge when the time comes. I'm still saying when and want to mean if! But Jackson ain't Atlanta and our turn around came after almost 35 years of black administrations made this place too expensive for a black family to live in. The successful blacks high tailed it to Clayton county by the tens of thousands and cobb as well as Gwinnett and the void was filled by young white families looking to live in our older more affordable homes. The older moved into the new high-rises and so we are now about 48% white up from. 28% to 30%. If sandy springs had not been incorporated into it's own little highly taxed town four years ago atl would be majority white now, by several tens of thousands. We've been where you are now and time will tell.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
