Latest Poll

Vote for best college football coach since Bear Bryant's time. Jimmy Johnson got my vote. Won't have the most wins obviously but when he was at Miami, he created teams that destroyed opponents, especially top-ranked ones as Barry Switzer and Bobby Bowden can verify. Vote early and often.

Where's Vince Dooley?

If Saban is on there, you have to include Mack Brown too. They both have a National Title, and are playing for another one this year.

It's a difficult choice.

My top 3 would probably be

Bowden
Osborne
Johnson

Bowden should get a ton of credit for building that program, regardless of any cheating that went on there.

Every coach on there cheated, so you can't really knock any specific coach for that.

Bob Stoops?

chris peterson. no one has ever done so much with so little.

This is easy. NICK. SABAN.

And because he's hot.

If Saban doesn't win the national championship, will you still say that?

He's been anything but dominant, if you look at each of his seasons individually.

He's really good, but not great, yet..

Johnson to me is the best one of them all. A NC and two Super Bowls. hard to beat. I don't equate best with total number of wins either. No one will convince me Bowden is a better coach than Bear for example. Bowden was probably the first coach, along with Schnellenberger, to realize the state of Florida's vast recruiting potential on the field. Johnson was a better coach then Bowden. The numbers do speak for themselves in his case. Both had top teams and Johnson beat him. Destroyed him one time when FSU was ranked number one, 31-0.

As for Saban, well, I would say he is one of the best ones in the 2000's. Going 8-0 twice in the SEC is no small feat, not to menation two undefeated regular seasons back to back in the SEC. Don't even tell me Mack Brown has it that tough in the Big 12. Defenses in Big 12 are nothing like the SEC as Brown damn near found out Saturday night when that was about the first time all year he faced a scheme you see in the SEC.

Texas defense aint to shabby either: http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/statsTeam

Am surprised SOS doesn't get more votes.

If you count out Mack Brown from the discussion because the Big 12 is more of an offensive scoring conference, then why not just make it all about the Southeast? It's not like Miami was playing a bunch of tough defenses when Johnson was there.

You have to include Stoops and Brown, if Saban is on the list. It really makes no sense to leave them off.

I think it's a clear tie between Meyer and Saban but since I'm a Bama fan I'm voting for Saban.

I would 86 Paterno and Bowden both are crusty figureheads that share responsibility for both building and tearing down their programs.

It's been a long time since either of the two have REALLY called the shots.

Paterno's son and Galen Hall run the offense at Penn State Along with Tom Bradley's defensive schemes.

FSU has belonged to Jimbo Fisher for quite sometime now and with Bowden FINALLY out of the way he could bring the convicts back on top of the Almost Competitive Conference next season. The same weak ass conference Miami's convicts play in but not as weak as the Fudge PAC 10 (sorry Pete Carroll).

Spurrier's a Cock,Osborne gets a DQ since most of his career was happening during Bear Bryant's, Tressel is okay but there's that little Buckeye stat where they've never beat an SEC team in a bowl game.

So yeah that being said--I voted for SABAN. Roll Tide Roll!

You need to check Miami's schedule when JJ was there. They played Notre Dame, SWC Champ Arkansas, Florida, FSU, top ranked Oklahoma, Nebraska, bowl bound South Carolina, Michigan at Michigan, Wisconsin, SEC CHamp LSU, Didn't see too many AA schools on their schedule.

Johnson dumped a lot of big games when he was getting those wins including a couple of national championships.

Also, this is before BCS and computer rankings so Miami never got to play other number one teams in those undefeated seasons they were supposedly dominating.

Johnson never went to another COLLEGE team after Miami to see if he could build a program up.

Meyer and Saban have both built championship teams, left their respective programs and built championship teams at other universities.

Put Johnson in the NFL today with the salary cap and see if he can New York Yankee his way into a Super Bowl--I doubt that happens.

He's a good coach and I have much respect for his record but I think the game has changed substantially from his days as a head coach.

Shows how little you know about Johnson's teams. They played tougher schedules than the Texas's, Nebraskas, and OU's back then. He beat several number ones and usually destroyed them. I do mean destroy. LSU won the SEC in 87. Miami came to town and completely annihlated the Tigers. It was like 44-3 or something like that.

As for Johnson's techniques not working today, who exactly do you think introduced the concept of speed at every position at the college level that Meyer and Saban use so much? Who do you think movded LB's up to DE's and Safeties up to LB's? He ran Marino's offense at Miami. Think that wasn't a pretty sophisticated offense? Please.

johnson owes much to schnellenberger. he took a perennial doormat (think temple) and coined the phrase any one any time anywhere (long before the buzzards). got killed for a few years by ND, USC and the like then started building a dynasty. johnson stepped into that.

Kingfish are you on record saying LSU sucks.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
