Jackson Mayor John Horhn issued the following statement.
The City of Jackson Fire Department is aware of reports regarding an incident involving on-duty firefighters that occurred over the weekend. The City acknowledges the seriousness of these allegations and is committed to full transparency.
Three on-duty Jackson firefighters visited a downtown Jackson establishment during their shift. The firefighters were subsequently dispatched to a fire at a blighted property. Afterward, law enforcement was called, sobriety testing was administered, and the firefighters were found to be in violation of departmental policy.
Fire Department Chief Rasean Thomas was immediately notified and took swift action. The firefighters involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an Internal Departmental Investigation.
"The conduct described in this incident is unacceptable and inconsistent with the standards we demand of every member of this department," said Chief Rasean Thomas. "The safety of Jackson residents is our highest obligation, and any behavior that compromises that obligation will not be tolerated."
Mayor John Horhn has been fully briefed on the matter and has made clear that this administration will not condone a culture of misconduct within any city department.
"We are taking this matter with the utmost seriousness," said Mayor Horhn. “I have directed Chief Thomas to strengthen the department's alcohol policy and institute more rigorous enforcement procedures to ensure an incident of this nature does not occur again."
Chief Thomas has made it clear to the entire Department, that conduct such as this will not be tolerated.

Current administration most definitely understands that shit happens sometimes. Maybe a hidden camera for the fire station sexcapades? Too drained to make timely responses...just asking.
Was there an alcohol policy of zero tolerance for on-duty firemen & for firemen on-call.
Typical Jackson behavior. Nobody is shocked. Nobody is surprised.
And the JFD fire rating just keeps going up, up, up.
Who is over their Fire Station? Is this tolerated? Maybe not an isolated incident!
Back in the day I had a co-worker who previously was a SFPD officer until about 1974 or so. Back then it was perfectly acceptable for beat cops, in uniform, to go into a bar and have a drink or two. Free of course.
And they had the gall to blame JXNWater for the rating downgrade.
7:20 - If you don't think this happens even in the neighboring counties, you're a fool. This is Mississippi.
They did forget where they parked the truck the other night…
Mr Mayor why strengthen the alcohol policy? Are they not allowed to drink a little bit? Come on Mayor give them a break, after a call I usually drink 1 shot and 1 beer! It makes up for the low pay!
Mr Mayor please don’t send them home to their wives, they love that break staying at the FireStation.
I just know our mayor isn't talking about alcohol just because his little incidence disappeared. I'm a firefighter somewhere close by. I get free food, drinks, lap dances, and all the coochie I can handle. I'm also a great firefighter. I'm underpaid, overworked, and live in fear at my station especially when the leaking roof activates the mold and mildew. The rat and snake activity here would give the Jackson zoo a run for the money. So just get over it! We have a great chief but these issues are bigger than all the caring and compassion he will ever possess.

So, what happened with Horhn's DUI charge?
Extra stupid. Imagine trying to fight a fiver when you are literally exhaling flammable alcohol vapors
First possible explanation that comes to mind was that Jackson forgot to have a enforceable 'no alcohol or drug impairment or use on the clock' policy.
The City's insurance carrier will be happy to adjust their rates as needed.
The ladder truck burned up became their high octane moonshine caught fire.
Maybe that bar is where the 911 operators are when no one answers?
Some years ago JFD let a rapper use an in service ladder truck off premises to film a video for his song “I’ve got a pole in my pants.” I am not joking.

If you have an alcohol policy, other than no alcohol while on duty, you have a problem.
So the current mayor can belly up to the bar most nights courtesy of the lobbyists. Both preceding mayors can have lavish strip club trips monitored by the FBI. The DA can be a drunk as his defense. But we draw the line at the firefighters. Rules for thee, not for me.
Probably not the first time! The Restaurants Just got a new batch of liquor from out of State because our liquor distribution warehouse is not functioning. The Fireman were not used to that potent out of state liquor.
Now, I'm hearing Mona Kalina singing 'We Know How to Party' (a song I don't mind having stuck in my head, actually, since it's quite uplifting).
But truly, firemen, don't you understand that booze makes you bloated, ugly, stupid, and poor? (and, eventually, impotent) You can give yourselves a competitive advantage, simply by NOT drinking.
"Afterward, law enforcement was called, sobriety testing was administered, and the firefighters were found to be in violation of departmental policy." Why is it necessary to strengthen the alcohol policy, when enforcement of the existing policy is sufficient? To make it sound like they are doing something?
Wow. Unprofessional behavior by first responders in the tri county area ? Shocked !!!! Shocked and appalled !!!
You don't know how biology, alcohol, absorption, concentration, etc. work at all, do you? (I'm not even gonna mention "fiver", just in a hurry to get your ignorance out for all to see, I guess)
yet Hohrn wants to blame the level 4 fire rating on JxnWater
