Well, Pizza Shack is closed. The door is locked, the shelves are empty, and the lights are turned off. No "closed" signs grace the doors nor are there any updates on social media. An employee at a nearby business said the restaurant had been closed for at least a few days.
JJ can confirm the establishment was closed Thursday and Wednesday evenings. The Secretary of State's website states the company was dissolved in December.

Must be in Jackson?
They had great pizza! Admittedly I have not been down that street since pre-Covid. Kudos to the owners for a good run!
KF - you can retract your previous retraction.
You can’t really stay in business when you have a pool of prospective or current employees that don’t give a damn. This generation of society is the absolute worst I have ever experienced in my profession. Why and how did we get here?
So, you didn’t blow it!
Employees who don’t give a dam or employers who don’t pay shit? You don’t always get what you want but you always get what you pay for
Don't take the job if it doesn't pay enough. But, if you do don't jeopardize the restaurant with your shitty attitude because you made a bad decision.
They have 3 other locations outside of the city limits that are doing just fine.
Take a position @5:59. What is the appropriate beginning pay rate for unskilled labor?
Different owner in Madison. Don't know about the others.
I've never been clear on that. If you call one of the other places, they are quick to tell you they are not Pizza Shack. Must have bought a license or something. The one in Clinton is always booming.
@4:49, I’m just guessing but I bet you’re about the age of the parents whose children you disparage. Maybe you should have done better.
I was wrong once. I thought that I was wrong but I wasn't.
At least $15
Don’t open up a business if your going to pay poverty wages
For the Jackson haters licking their chops to shit on the city for this, Mazzios in Madison closed two weeks ago. But KF would never report on that or the fantastic restaurants and bars that have opened in Jackson lately (La Presa, Little Effie, Emerson Provisions, Masa Mesa, Sermon Sandwich Bar, Louise’s, Boondocks BBQ, Just Vanilla, etc.).
This place was 100% did in by Poppy Pies on Manship St which is the very best pizza in Mississippi. Please give it a shot if you haven’t had it already
Their service is and has been awful!
Pizza is great but the people that worked there acted like they were doing you a favor for buying an overpriced pizza.
I’m actually surprised they lasted this long with their asshole service!!
Mazzio's is a pizza chain from the 80's that's now down to three restaurants in the metro area that once had at least a dozen. These two things are not the same.
only ate there once, and the dough was raw in the middle. never went back.
@8:49 PM Poppy's pies has a decent pepperoni, but its a little too spicy. The rest of their pizzas are straight up gross (like ground up crackers w/ honey drizzle????)
If you have been in MAZZIO’s in Madison anytime in the last 18 months, you’d see how gross the tables were and how they didn’t deserve the ratings they got. I will miss it, but it’s been long overdue.
I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.🌞
Maybe low wages caused there attitudes?
Mississippi is one of the few states that will continue to hire poorly educated and low IQ individuals and send them to work in low paying retail and service jobs they don't want. We need Hispanics or robots working fast food, grocery stores and big box stores like Walmart and Target.
I will agree. The pizza was good. The service was awful bordering on downright demeaning for daring to walk in the door. I wrote them off a long time ago.
@7:45
I will open whatever business I want and pay whatever I want even if that means I will hire illegals to do the tipping job that Americans won’t do for $3 an hour!
It’s always humorous to see people with few skills complain about their wages. Some jobs are just stepping stones to better paying jobs. You deserve what you earn, and there is plenty of opportunity for those that work hard and perform well.
Sad. This one used to win Best of or Best Pizza in Town Awards. I started going to the one in Madison several years ago. Cleaner, employees nicer, actually I see the same employees most of the time. At fortification, it was always a different face.
Wasn't the same after it was forced to move from North State Street. The outdoor deck was nice but that would not have lasted as the bums would have taken it over or you would have had bums bothering you while you tried to eat.
The Cleaners by Pizza Shack in 39042 Brandon - good food, great atmosphere and outdoor seating on the 2nd floor
balcony
The original owners - now deceased - were a blessing to Jackson’s pizza food scene. The fact that it lasted until now is a testament to the recipes and good will they built up from scratch. The owners car broke down in jackson and they could not afford to fix it….they stayed and got jobs and started the pizza shack. Really is a great story. Hope the recipes live on.
The 55 Target needs self check outs. It could also use robots to restock the shelves. The employees there are beyond awful.
Ghetto Jackson can't support a Sally's Beauty Supply.
10:39 the 55 Target is getting a full remodel starting now and is STAYING in Jackson!
Let's hope they replace all the useless employees because a remodel will be a complete waste of time if it doesn't. I saw the remodel in action. No way are they relying on local people to do that work because it would not get done.
I went there one time a couple years ago and the employee couldn’t have cared less about me or my order. I never went back.
The owners almost have to be in these small restaurants or they will die.
when my nephew was at Belhaven many years ago, this place had just opened. He would talk about going there all the time because the pizza was great.
Only had Poppy's one time. Made the mistake of getting the thin crust, which it apparently had not mastered. Was floppy as hell. Had to eat with knife and fork because it was so floppy, it would bend and the toppings and cheese would slide completely off. Very disappointing . Pizza Hutt, Pizza Shack, and Soulshine all do the job just fine. Heard the Detroit pizza on Sundays at Poppy's was real good. Just haven't had a chance to try it.
There seems to be restaurant that should be paying kingfish for all the plugs they put in comments irrelevant to theirs. It’s the same names every time!
954 PM and 722 AM...You squarely hit the nail on the head...
Poppy's really is good. But 35 dollars for a pizza is a robbery.
Any word on where this establishment was?
7:30 It is not $35/pizza and you should be ashamed to so casually lie.
it’s average at best
The bars on the door in the photo speak volumes.
Doing just fine....??? doing Average is more like it. service is C+ and food is B-. How long will they hang around?
8:48 for the win. Well said.
Look at how many articles JJ published whining about Thalia Mara when it was closed and then marvel at the zero articles he’s written about it since it reopened.
Pizza Shack had spotty service 20 years ago and amazed it limped this long after COVID. I haven't had a thought to order it since probably 2012 or so. Sometimes places close because they aren't that good, it's not always some portent of the apocalypse like everyone wants to make it. It's hard as hell to have a successful restaurant which is why people like Jeff Good, Derek Emerson, and other longtime restauranteurs in the metro area are beyond impressive to me.
8:48: Actually went out there and shot pictures Thursday but ran short of time, got tied up rest of the night, and just plain forgot til you reminded me. Post later as there are two more closures I want to go check out first.
I'm laughing that a grown up thinks the pepperoni pizza is spicy when my one year old devours it multiple times a week with no issues (and he thinks tacos are spicy). It is the best pizza and the employees couldn't be any nicer.
8:07, it was across the street from the old Jitney 14 on Fortification. Next door to where Finians was located.
