State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.
Today State Auditor Shad White announced that Special Agents from his office have arrested John Jackson, landscape architect and owner of JPA, Inc., on one count of false statements or representations to defraud the government.
Jackson is accused of submitting invoices to the City of Tutwiler for landscape architect services that he never provided. The fraudulent submissions caused a loss to the city of $155,039.15.
“This is one of the larger cases we’ve had this year, so I want to thank the investigators on my team for their diligent work and the prosecutors for being willing to take the case,” said State Auditor Shad White.
Jackson faces up to five years and $10,000 in fines if convicted. All persons arrested by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor’s office online at any time by clicking the red button at www.osa.ms.gov or calling 1-(800)-321-1275 during normal business hours.

Where's the guy who always complains about how corrupt Mississippi is, and then bitches about Mr. White going after small potatoes?
Looks like he needs to get out and do some sweaty landscape work.
I hope they don’t confiscate his shovel '!!!!!!
Why stop investigating there? I’d wager a large amount of money that someone in the Tutwiler city government approved those payments and knew that work didn’t get done. Wonder how much he slipped them?
"Low hanging fruit" comments in 3, 2, 1...
From reading several posts about Mr. White, it is surprising that agents of his office arrested Mr. Jackson since on most all posts concerning Mr. White's performance his supporters have stated that Mr. White can only investigate, not arrest. In reviewing these posts it seems that Mr. White put the supervisors in one Delta county that they had misspent in excess of $100,000 of ARPA money and made demand on them to repay the money, which they have refused to do. If all of this is true, why can't Mr. White's agents also arrest these supervisors?
Is this one of the contracts?

There used to be a historical marker at that building.

Someone pushed the RED BUTTON on this guy?
If it "caused the city a loss of 155k" they need to go after whoever approved the invoices...You'd hope a city the size would Tutwhiler would notice that kind of money-- that is unless they were juiced in as well.
How fortuitous. MDOC has a landscape architect that is about to be released and they will be in desperate need of a replacement. The Lord answers prayers. 🙏
Low hanging fruit guy here.
Nobody in Tallahatchie County voted for Shad. It is okay for him to go after people in this county.
There are not enough municipal owned buildings or other property in Tutwiler to spend $155,000 on landscaping, much less landscape architecture services, annually. Is this guy even a certified LA? That would be my next question.
JPA, Inc. isn't listed on the MS Sec of State's website as a business.
3:46PM, I know more landscape architects than I'd like to, who consider "landscaping" to be beneath them. (every last one of those, went to "State") They're all about the hardscaping/Civil Engineering side of things. I have to hire other people, to handle aesthetics (which includes knowledge of plant materials).
A city COULD keep a landscape architect busy with sidewalks, grant applications for sidewalk-building, retention ponds, and drainage infrastructure, IF a city were so inclined. Apparently, though, that's not the case in Tutwiler.
I didn't know Tutwiler had $155k to spend.
There's grass, and then there is grass.
Where do you go to get a “LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT” degree?
So there's a guy up Memphis way, a John Jackson III as featured in this article: https://issuu.com/oneindustry/docs/may_june_2021/s/16809564
He is described in the article linked above as doing business as JPA Inc.
There appears to be a Landscape Architecture company with that name findable at the Tennessee Secretary of State website.
Shad would get far more press if he could post a release saying:
"Today State Auditor Shad White announced that Special Agents from his office have arrested Phillip Bryant, former Governor of Mississippi on one count of false statements or representations to defraud the government."
Instead, Shad White turned out to be more corrupt than the low-hanging fruit he puts in his pathetic little basket he takes home to Rina. He also brings shame to the uniform he wears as a member of the armed forces.
@ 4:15...'Went to State'? You reckon that because where the coursework major can be found?
You'll notice that most 'engineers' around these parts also 'went to state'. That's true for the same reason.
Hoddy Tardy!
Broken Window Theory. Keep it up Shad.
