Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is holding his regular briefing. The press conference is live-streamed below. The Mayor's notice of the press conference said he would make an "important announcement."
* SBA has opened a small business center for businesses that suffered losses from storms in April. Those eligible can borrow up to $2 million.
* Jackson Meals Matter returns, serving lunch from 11 AM to 1 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for Jackson citizens under the age of 18. They must be eaten on-site at Smith-Robertson, Sykes Park, and
* The Mayor said the HR Director found "irregularities" in the HR Department. She and JPD investigated, finding additional irregularities, particularly in the area of benefits. The State Auditor and Attorney General joined in the investigation.
A city employee was terminated. The fraud may have impacted former employees who utilized the insurance plan. Mayor Lumumba said he expects criminal charges to be filed. He urged former employees to contact the city to see if they were impacted.
Mayor Lumumba said it "appears" the employee exploited her position to take advantage of those insured directly or companies that deal with the city of Jackson. He said it appeared the embezzlement took place for "a few years."
Although the Mayor said he could not disclose the amount of funds stolen, he stated the funds in question were a "felony amount."
* The Juneteenth Street Festival will take place tomorrow in front of the Jackson Convention Center. It starts at 5 PM. There will be a fireworks display and live entertainment.

I wonder why some people think paying bills is an optional thing? If you make them, you pay them.
I'm shocked.
Not in Jackson
Finally, Shad has started to focus on COJ.
You can't shake a stick and not hit someone guilty of fraud at City Hall.
Kenneth Stokes has been asking for audits and investigations over what he said was missing funds. I guess they will finally take a look.
How his first bullet point should have read:
*SBA has opened a small business center for businesses that suffered losses due the administration of Chokwe Antar Lumumba. Those eligible can borrow up to $2 million.

Why not disclose the employees name and the amount? The public has a right to know, right?
Imagine that - the same HR Department that was in such disarray that it couldn’t ever come up with a Class A Operator for the water plant for years couldn’t oversee and manage its own employees.

The individual hasn't been charged with the crime yet.
So, no name can be given out until that individual is charged.
Diversionary tactic. Trying to distract from the Feds on his ass
4:57 shewwww!! Said a mouthful with that one. Like a bathtub full of cereal mouthful!
Mayor Lumumba said it "appears" the employee exploited her position to take advantage of those insured directly or companies that deal with the city of Jackson.
Say what? That doesn’t make any sense.
This is another one of Chowke's "wag the dog" distractions.
It takes one to know one.
@4:57- It is so obvious- even Ray Charles can see it ( yet non of the City leaders have a clue) !
8:41p Bingo
If you cannot talk about it because the person hasn’t been charged yet, then why announce it? Premature Id say. Or maybe you’re trying to control the narrative by helping to find the keys that have been in your pocket the entire time.
Antar’s City Hall is nothing more than a house of cards. As for Antar himself, he’s the joker, of course.
Quoting Mumbles loosely, "Once again, we are asking that you come forward if you think you have been impacted by this fraud. So, again, we are asking that those of you, retirees or even current employees, contact our H.R. administration if you notice irregularities or you believe you have been impacted. We believe this fraud goes back several years."
Wait! What? How the hell would I know if I've been impacted by something if I have no idea what the impact might have been and I have no clue what to look for or think back about?
"Finally, Shad has started to focus on COJ."
Shad has not 'started to focus' on anything. He was notified and his office was represented at a meeting.
@2:22 more like you can't swing a dead cat...
I agree with this earlier comment:

Chowke: "Oh, look at the bird."
Why terminate her. A situation in Madison County where millions were given away to fraud resulted in nothing. I think the employee is scheduled to attend a training seminar, upcoming at one of the casino resorts.
And Supervisor Griffin consistently votes to send his relative, the jurdge, to annual seminars on the coast, up to Tunica or the Choctaw Nation digs.
Until the names are released on the federal docket the people aren't concerned with these things. I waiting to see the mayor, his sister and the DA have to post bond.
