Cock of the Walk at the Reservoir is temporarily closed after it flunked a Health Department inspection.
The video posted below appeared on Facebook yesterday.
* Insects, rodents, and animals not present
* Sewage waste water not properly disposed
* Food contact surfaces cleaned and sanitized
The owner voluntarily closed the restaurant. The Health Department will send another inspector in ten days to determine if Cock of the Walk is compliant with the law.

Never again!
The place will need to be gutted. Restaurants have a continued battle with this especially those over or near water. The Nutria Rats are especially bad at that place.
Never, never again.
Yikes! Was this Pocahontas or the Rez?
Gross!
They have two local restaurants.
Which one? Reservoir or Elizabeth Warren location?
Meh
I’d eat there
Rez! Rez! Rez! Rez!
They have been milking that place for over 20 years. That video is disgusting. But the food is still good. I went in the spring.
5:31, the Rez. As KF stated. Interestingly, the one of 49 has an entirely different menu and different catfish recipe. COTW just took it over when it failed.
awwwwwwwwwwwwww hellllllllllll nawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
You can mark me down for "NO" on that.
I hope that’s catfish you’re eating!
The video looks to be staged. I live out in th country and see mice all the time. Never do mice sit still with all that activity going on around them. I vote that some disgruntled employees did this.
They have been going downhill for a while. I rode my bicycle through their parking lot a few months and the cooks were smoking weed on their break. Nasty people cooking your food. The quality has deteriorated; doesn’t seem like Simmons farm raised and the slaw wasn’t refrigerated.
I can’t imagine what goes on at the Pocahontas location. It just plain feels nasty in there. Once was enough.
There are no stray cats in that area either, but there used to be dozens of them.
I learned a very long time ago, ‘never go into the kitchen of your favorite restaurant’. Now I can’t go back to the cots.
With pens gone, where’s a good fried catfish place?
@9:30 pot is more common than you think. Even the country club waiters smoke pot in their break in the lounge
Cock of the Walk on Rez opened 44 years ago. It’s time to bulldoze it. It has outlasted any thing else out there. At one time great but time for this building to go. The original owner Ken Jackson could squeeze a nickel.
Mississippi has some of the most lenient public health and safety laws around. If they were asked to shut down, the place was truly nasty.
Ate there about 4 weeks ago. It was honestly one of the worst meals I ever had. I would have asked for my $$ back, but figured I'd waste more of my time than I had. I said that day I'd never go back, and this just solidifies my position. Bye COTW! You had a long run....
Ken Jackson opened this place eons ago. The family continues to run it and nostalgia seems to have gotten in the way.
It’s time to take down the 42 year old biz cards and pull up the nasty floors. Rehab the bathrooms and the kitchen.
I agree the entire building needs to be gutted and they need to start over fresh.
They have bilked all the cash they can bilk out of this structure.
Takes money to make money.
If, a place gets the C grade...it is the lowest grade the health dept. can give.
So, a C grade is really an F!!
I'm willing to go out on a limb, or out on a weed, and suggest that 80-90% of all wait staff and kitchen workers smoke weed, wherever they are, in their apartment, at work, on break, driving....you name it.
If you really want a treat, drive the back alley behind any group of connected storefronts that includes restaurants, especially Chinese and Mexican. You'll see all manner of nasty trash, containers overflowing, employees on break sitting on garbage cans smoking weed. And you will learn more about who is actually preparing your food than you ever wanted to know.
If you can gain access to ANY roadway behind ANY restaurant, give it a try.
One of my favorite places to dine, going back over 45 years, is on Highway 80 in Jackson. But there's a reason they have 25 watt light bulbs.
Just stay closed, complete demo to the ground and rebuild. Catfish isn't bad at Mama Hamills.
Tons of great memories going there years ago with the whole family. I like the old business cards on the wall. Its fun to read them. My Dad's card is up there. Haven't been there in a while. It had gotten a little too expensive for me. Hope they clean up and bounce back.
Put the catfish-hushpuppy operation on wheels, out run the roaches and rodents. Tasty but guilt ridden (fried) food. Wish they had catfish grilled over charcoal and mesquite
A friend ate there recently and said the waiters no longer flip the cornbread and they don’t wear the feathers in their hats, etc…. So it must have changed a lot from years ago when I went often…
@10:19, there is no employee lounge at the Country Club.
It seems folks commenting on this site were much more inclined to cancel Mary Mahoney than COTW?
I don't eat at either, so I don't really care. Just an interesting observation.
@8:11am, Mama Hamils serves catfish nuggets. Just the cheapest part of the catfish they can buy. Low quality fish. I lose my appetite thinking about Mama Hamils. Quit going there too.
"With pens gone, where’s a good fried catfish place?"
Shivers in Crystal Springs.
It was such a treat to go there as a kid in the 90's. I couldn't wait to see the cornbread flipped and the big pots of cole slaw and greens coming out. We still frequent the Pocahontas location because they have really good grilled catfish.
The Igloo is always good.
Love the igloo. I haven't tried Shivers yet but am going to in the next week or so. I think Penns still has a place in Flowood. I love fried catfish.
@Kingfish, yes, Jerry's has decent catfish, but the owners are assholes and are rude to autistic children. More than one occasion the people were terrible to customers.
Ate there a month ago. Employees were wearing whatever shirt they found laying by the bed that morning. Bus boy was waiting with a tub right by the table, not long after we received our cornbread. Like he was rushing us. Friends of employees going in and out of the kitchen, chasing one another and being loud and obnoxious. Manager on duty had zero control. It was obvious that if he attempted to correct an employee, he would’ve been harassed and call a racist. Really quite embarrassing to see the decline of an enjoyable atmosphere. Mr. Jackson would close it down before he hired staff that act so silly.
We like Mossy Creek in Pearl. It has the added advantage of being next door to the movie theater, so that makes for a good date night, movie and dinner.
Did the mair of Ridgeland hold a ribbon cutting for the re-opening today?

The Last One They Served Me Was Cooked Very Well, But They Should Keep Them Penned Up Until Needed...
Appears that Kingfish has not only altered his original 'findings' of the health department, but he's also taken down the video.
Video works.
