The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce issued the following statement.
The Mississippi Agriculture and Livestock Theft Bureau (MALTB) recovered a stolen skid steer, with an estimated value of $50,000, in Hinds County last week.
On October 15, 2023, MALTB investigators started an investigation after receiving anonymous information of possible stolen equipment. Three days later, investigators located and recovered a stolen 2018 Model 289D Caterpillar Skid Steer. The skid steer had been reported stolen from Hinds County in the City of Jackson in July 2022. The property recovered was valued at an estimated $50,000.
MALTB Director Dean Barnard praised investigators for their quick action and recovery of the equipment and thanked the anonymous caller for providing the information. “We encourage anyone who might have information of stolen agricultural equipment to please contact your local law enforcement, Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS, or our MALTB tip line at 1-800-678-2660. All callers can remain anonymous,” said Barnard.
Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson said, “I applaud our investigators’ swift response and hard work to recover the valuable property in this case. Our investigators are the first line of defense when it comes to thefts in Mississippi’s ag community, and we are dedicated to protecting and serving our producers throughout the state.”

Big Hat Andy gittin it done!
Who knew there were farmers in the City of Jackson? Or did that steer fall off the trailer when they was just passin thru?
So, what's been the disposition of the people who stole the equipment? I guess 'The Hat' was too busy squawking about nothingness.
Maybe Mr Gipson can recover the 40 sumpin thousand dollars Express Grain owes my Farmer Neighbor, since that should be his primary job looking out for the AG Intersets in this state...
Andy has his agents chasing stollen skid steers?
7:08, Andy is not responsible for protecting stupid farmers.
Good Lord, Mississippi Agriculture and Livestock Theft Bureau, what a long-ass name. When they make a bust, what do they say? “Mississippi Agriculture and Livestock Theft Bureau, you’re under arrest”? Or “Malt Bee! Git down! Git on’y groun’ NOW”? Or is it “Ag Police, hands up”? Serious-minded folk want to know.
How many state owned SUVs and pic'em up trucks they drivin? How many miles? Rent? Buy? Hertz?
(Asking for Shad!)
Reports from arresting authorities typically mention (even in passing) the names, ages, addresses, etc of those arrested. Are we looking at the new arrest and report model?
All the negative comments - you guys need to get a life!!!
I think the likely scenario is that it was "borrowed" by someone with access to the keys and "relocated" to a place it could be "found" when it was no longer needed.
I doubt there will be a "search" for the thief. That could have a negative political outcome.
@ 8:31 - Nothing 'negative' about mine at 6:27, immediately above yours. What the hell is negative about questioning a unit of a state agency locating stolen equipment and arresting suspects while mentioning NOTHING about the suspected perpetrators?
@9:32 - "Cow cops"
JP
Wonder how long it will be before it is borrowed yet again.
Dang, cowboy Andy and his AG men on the job !
How did Andy miss the photo op ? I feel slighted
