Baker Runs for A.G.

State Representative Marcus Baker issued the following statement.

Republican State Representative Mark Baker today qualified to run for Attorney General citing the need for a conservative in the office that should be at the forefront in the fight to protect Mississippi values.

“I’m running to be President Trump’s partner in Mississippi.  It’s time we have an Attorney General who will fight illegal immigration, not ignore it.  It’s time we have an Attorney General who will fight political favoritism and corruption and who will work to create a better legal environment in Mississippi,” Baker said.

Baker, who has served in the Mississippi House of Representatives since 2004 stated, “I have a proven record defending our Second Amendment rights, the rights of the unborn, and our religious freedoms.  As Attorney General, I will lead the fight to protect Mississippi’s conservative values.”

“I will work to make Mississippi a safer place to live by working with federal, state, and local authorities to combat crime and put criminals in jail, to end human trafficking, and to find real solutions to address the opioid epidemic in Mississippi,” Baker said.

“As a practicing attorney for over 30 years, I have extensive experience in civil and criminal matters, substantial trial and appellate court experience, and years of experience prosecuting criminals and serving as a judge.  My legislative and legal background provides me the experience necessary to serve very effectively as Attorney General,” Baker said.

Representative Baker is a lawyer and legislator from Rankin County.  He is a graduate of the University of Memphis (B.A., Criminal Justice - 1984) and Mississippi College School of Law (J.D., with distinction -1987).  Mark is married to the former Lady Collins, an English teacher at Brandon High School.  Mark and Lady have been married for 29 years and have one son, Chase, a public policy major at the Trent Lott Leadership Institute at the University of Mississippi.  The Bakers are members of Lakeside Presbyterian Church.

He s qualified and has the expertise and Bulldog mentality we need in the AG s office! We need a restructuring of the Office, it has been Politically one sided far too long.

I have known Mark since before he was first elected. He is a good man and an honest man. He has my vote and support.

While the Trump comment was not needed, Mark would be a much better AG than Fitch. Mark is a good person, who would do a good job for Mississippi as AG.

Anonymous said...

I will be supporting Lynn Fitch.

It is disappointing that Moore and Hood did not groom a successor, such as an experienced District Attorney, ready to step up and maintain continuity in the office.

Mark will make a great AG for this state - cannot wait for him to be elected and start combating all of the problems brought up in this article.

Why do these folks see a need to even bring up Trump? Its a total turn-off... and its spineless pandering to the lowest common denominator.

I can't single this guy out... they all do it now. I'll look to what he says other than that and make up my mind.

A spineless Republican demagogue sucking up to Trump. At least Fitch has a mind of her own.

Mark will do a great job as AG. He’s been a champion for bringing transparency to the AG’s legal contracts with out of state firms. We need more leaders that will reign in those sweetheart deals and ensure that the contracts are in the best interest of Mississippi and not the contractors.

Just like investment in his hotel business, only in Mississippi can you run on being on the same page as Trump.

Anonymous said...

I’m voting for Mark who is strong and will be great. But Mark you don’t need to lower yourself by mentioning that lying demagogue Trump. Your better than him and don’t need him dragging you down. Remember, you are not just running in Rankin County.

you think cindy hyde smith is an embarrassment to this state? well, just put this guy in office and you will really see an embarrassment.

Mark knows the politics of Mississippi and IMO works very hard.

He is absolutely qualified to be our next AG and hopefully "clean up" some of the problems in this state.

Mark is quick to become unhinged. I litigated a routine matter with him. Should have been simple. He wouldn’t let it be simple. At first he was cordial. But, He wanted to be the smartest guy in the room. It was clear from the beginning he was not. At one point during a simple discovery dispute he got so angry about being exposed for not understanding the subject matter, his face became beet red, he began pounding the table cursing at the lawyers who were simply trying to explain basic elements to him. He had to be asked by one of the other lawyers to leave the room to compose himself. He would routinely hang up on me if a discussion was not going how he expected. He’s easily outsmarted, and when he is, he’s easily thrown off his game.

Based on past experience on this subject, there is a 0% chance this gets posted.

Anytime someone says, "there is no chance that KF will post this comment" I know that the entire comment is bogus.

Spineless? Just because he supports Trump? It is my experience that Trump supporters need a thick skin, a good spine, and a great sense of humor. Believe me, Hillary had none of the above attributes. I find her supporters drooling with hate speech and anti-American sentiments.

Seems like not too long ago Baker wanted to strip authority from the AGs office...also heard he’s a hothead and unwilling to have civil disagreements

Redneck. Should win easily. Trump trump trump. Um, errrr, Trump. Just like CHS. And Bryant for that matter.

Anonymous said...

Mark is much better than Lynn. Lynn is Hood 2.0

Anonymous said...

Baker has a bad temperament. No way he resonates with the average Mississippi republican voter.

Anonymous said...

For “Mark” to be a great AG, he must first get elected. And that, folks, just ain’t gonna happen.

Anonymous said...

Lynn Fitch easily outclasses this guy.

It's a fact that Kingfish almost NEVER allows any negative comment about Lynn Fitch. Never have understood that.

She's bounced around the halls of various agencies ever since Haley anointed her queen of something or other, maybe Yazoo Coon Hunting Association Queen. Soon as she learned where her parking space was and the different cubicles, restrooms and supply cabinets were in one agency of state government, she was off to another agency to decorate and prance around.

besides wasting taxpayer money advertising college savings programs, what the heck has she ever accomplished? Seriously.

I would hope that a candidate would be running to serve and protect the people of the state of Mississippi rather than be the partner of some man whose interests vary from day to day. Trump is not a god and hopefully we will never require an oath of loyalty to him as a requisite for public office no matter the blind obedience some sheep might have expressed. Sad that this man thought such a statement would be impressive.

Fitch > Baker, by a lot

Anonymous said...

Baker is an egomaniacal self dealing dumbass.

After the 2008 debacle? Baker tried to pass the “Baker Law Firm Full Employment Act” by requiring more regulations to “ensure” loan documents were read and explained. Failed miserably.

He is a hot head who cannot listen to reason.

He is a case thief. The very first firm he worked for...he stole a pharmaceutical misfilling plaintiffs case and turned down lots of money to settle it....he tried it....he got zero dollars. Zero.

He has bad judgment and a terrible temperment.

No amount of trump can wash those negative qualities away.

Anonymous said...

Lynn Fitch is loyal only to the OM plantation. She couldn't care less about Mississippians.

Anonymous said...

Finally we get a candidate who understands that the real problem facing Mississippi is Mexico!!!

Anonymous said...

It's a fact that Kingfish almost NEVER allows any negative comment about Lynn Fitch.

Prove it.

Anonymous said...

"will fight political favoritism.." Well, Mark, that is grabbing the seat of your own britches there. Good luck.

Anonymous said...

Haley stuck Fitch in over at Employment Security for awhile. People said they saw her in the hallway, clicking her heels. She had an office and a gubment cell phone. And a parking space. Then she was gone. Then she popped up in another tower with an office and exhibited her costly interior decorating skills.

Her primary goal is to be hauled from one end of the state to the other, back and forth, in an MHP troopers car at 88 mph.

The older Mark has gotten, the less we see the dumbass Mark. And I've been pleasantly surprised to observe him eschewing the flame throwing, hot headed act. In other words, he appears to have matured and mellowed over time. He will make it a competitive race by sheer force of will and hard-headedness. At the end, however, Mark simply does not have the name recognition to win a state-wide race.

Anonymous said...

@ 8:19

You may be right. We'll see. But, he started early and has already put in a lot of miles. Lynn will be a formidable candidate, especially in this climate of more and more women getting into politics, she's not going to out work him though.

baker says he will "fight illegal immigration ".........gee mr baker , anyone with a high powered resume like yours ought to at least know that the united states constitution delegates exclusive jurisdiction to the federal government, not the states, in all matters of immigration and naturalization. so , ask yourself , is baker lying or is he just stupid?

Anonymous said...

It will be GREAT having Jim Hood out of state government!!!

Anonymous said...

The guy above that called him out for being beat-red faced and confused over a garden variety disco dispute has it right. Everything I've ever had with Mark he has turned into an unnecessary mess, despite his client getting screwed for his efforts. He typifies "Bubba Pandering", and laughs about this if you are close to him. If ya'll elect him, just know that he is laughing at you. Anyone that interprets a pedantic child that throws fits because he doesn't know the rules as "tough" deserves what they get.

Anonymous said...

8:19 He does lack the name recognition. That's why he'll change his name to
Mark Trump Baker. Win in a landslide.

Anonymous said...

“I’m running to be President Trump’s partner in Mississippi. It’s time we have an Attorney General who will fight illegal immigration, not ignore it."

WTF - please tell us about the problems Madison and Rankin County residents are having with illegal immigrants?

Do they not have enough Mexican restaurants? Not enough landscapers? Perhaps there are too many Latin Kings? MS-13? Latin Disciples are running rampant at Jackson Prep? Madison Central? NW Rankin? Brandon H.S.? German Town?

What an idiot!?

Anonymous said...

Immigration?

He represents constituents who literally hoard school buses with Mexicans to clean chickens!

WTH?

Hypocrite and a mad lying sob

Not qualified

Baker’s pandering to Trump sickens me. I will vote for Finch.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully he will get thae office out of the domestic violence business. Too many lose gun rights for grabbing wrist.

Anonymous said...

Lynn Fitch has my support, based on her own merit, but now also against another Trump panderer.

Anonymous said...

to 7:11, on jan08..........greenteeth rednecks like you could not find mexico on a map of the world.

Anonymous said...

1040... just FYI the domestic violence laws are enforced by EVERY local and county agency in the state; in other words the AGs office has little to do with DV arrests. So, if you got locked up learn to keep your hands to yourself.

Snowflake alert @ 10:40

Baker if you’re reading this, the legislature put human trafficking under the AGs office but offered no additional funding. In this session will the AGs office see some funding to that end? Will you push that bill?

Anonymous said...

"I want to be crystal clear: This isn't about enforcing the law, this is about GOP loyalty. I will be Trump's partner, whatever THAT means, and I will run everything by Butler Snow first to make sure the right GOP palms are getting greased, just like a good little boy."

Anonymous said...

Those of you supporting Fitch because Baker pandered to Trump: prepare to be disappointed. She'll be right there with him.

Anonymous said...

If only people weren't allowed to post anonymously, there wouldn't be any comments at all as no-one would have the balls to say most of these things publicly. 48 comments so far - not a one of them using a name. Make this 49...

Anonymous said...

952... got the answer.. Baker sponsored a bill that took Human Trafficking out of the AGs office and gave it to MBI... already trying to get out of work..

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
