The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued the following statement.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol will kick off the 2017 Christmas Travel Enforcement Period with a safety awareness initiative titled “Making It Home for the Holidays.” This high visibility safety initiative will run through the end of the year and is designed to ensure safe travel for motorists while also reminding them of their responsibilities during the busy holiday season. The MHP 2017 Christmas Travel Enforcement Period begins Friday, December 22 at 6 p.m. and will conclude Monday, December 25 at midnight
. All available Troopers will be utilized on all state, federal, and interstate systems to combat reckless driving along with speeding and distracted driving issues. Safety checkpoints will also be conducted throughout the period in order to enforce child restraint and seatbelt laws while also removing impaired drivers. MHP investigated 141 crashes including 3 fatalities during the 2016 Christmas enforcement period. If alcohol is included in celebrations, we urge motorists to designate a sober driver or have other means of safe transportation. Our goal is for everyone to make it home for the holidays. In order to accomplish this, responsible decisions and safe driving should be a major part of everyone’s holiday plans.

I understand that MHP does a good job relative to their given resources, but I have always wondered about these Holiday heightened enforcement periods. Should MHP and other law enforcement always be conducting these activities at these levels? I understand that there are more motorists on the roads during holidays and maybe more drunks, but why not go all out all the time?
It's a ruse. Nothing but a series of tactical announcements and foreboding warnings required in order to receive the grants.
How are they going to pay for this, now that their reinstatement scam is over.
So.... "This high visibility safety initiative will run through the end of the year." and ""he MHP 2017 Christmas Travel Enforcement Period begins Friday, December 22 at 6 p.m. and will conclude Monday, December 25 at midnight"
The 25th at Midnight is not the End Of The Year.
Do we NOT want these Troopers out on the roads getting unsafe drivers off of the roads?
Geez. . .some of the negative comments about this. . .
Sure hope they are diligent to arrest all those driving while under the influence of marijuana.
Are they going to pry that trooper loose from the truckers?
Or is it really not that important?
