The Mississippi Department of Corrections, Madison Police Department, and Jackson Police Department issued the following press releases and pictures. It was a busy day on the crime-fighting front so they were combined into one post.

MDOC CONDUCTS SIXTH SHAKEDOWN THIS MONTH
JACKSON - Cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, unauthorized footwear, and a stockpile of canteen items were found when Mississippi Department of Corrections officers searched Carroll-Montgomery County Regional Correctional Facility today as part of Operation Zero Tolerance.
The Vaiden facility is the sixth to be searched since Corrections Commissioner Pelicia Hall instituted the statewide contraband crackdown earlier this month.
Hall, whom the Senate confirmed on Tuesday to head the prison system, said all facilities will be subject to an unannounced shakedown.
“I am determined to see that we eliminate as much contraband as possible for the safety of staff and inmates,” Hall said. “We recognize that inmates alone are not responsible for the illegal items, that staff, visitors, and vendors bring in contraband. During my confirmation hearing, for example, I told how one smuggled cell phone could go for $3,000. But my administration is focused on not only pointing out our challenges but also finding ways to address them.”
K-9 units from both Central Mississippi Correctional Facility and Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman were used to secure the regional facility based in Carroll County so officers from both Institutions and Community Corrections could conduct the search.
Other contraband items at Carroll-Montgomery include cell phone accessories, scales, tattoo kits, tobacco, cigarettes and cigarette lighters, two shanks, and various nuisance contraband, such as necklaces, belts, and medication.
Prison officials suspect that inmates caught with large quantities of canteen are likely engaging in extortion. Inmates caught with contraband face disciplinary action.
Hall has extended the renewed security effort to inmates posting on Facebook and the search of visitors and vendors upon entrance to prison grounds.
The Carroll-Montgomery County facility is one of 15 regional jails in the state prison system. On Thursday, its inmate population was 264; the maximum count is 280.
The five other shakedowns have occurred at Wilkinson County Correctional Facility, East Mississippi Correctional Facility, Marshall County Correctional Facility, Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility, and Holmes-Humphreys County Regional Correctional Facility.

On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at approx. 9:30 AM, Jackson Police Officers responded to Kolbs’ Cleaners on State St. regarding an auto theft. Upon officers’ arrival, it was learned that a white Ford F-250 had been stolen from this location. A gray Nissan Pathfinder was observed at the scene occupied by at least three unidentified black males. One of the subjects exited the Pathfinder and gained entry into the F-250. Both vehicles were observed leaving the business together.
At approx. 9:35 AM, a Precinct 4 officer observed a gray Nissan Pathfinder matching the description of the suspects’ vehicle near the area of Fortification St. near Whitworth St. There were two unidentified black males occupying the vehicle. Upon the occupants observing the officer’s presence, the driver of the vehicle ran a stop sign and collided with a van. The occupants of the Pathfinder were detained and identified as Michael Evans-33 and Dequante Green-24. Both subjects sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the van was also treated for minor injuries. Several items were recovered from the Pathfinder that was linked to stolen Ford F-250 to include a pistol.
At approx. 10:30 AM, the stolen white Ford F-250 was recovered and unoccupied in the area of Jefferson St. which is in close proximity to where the accident occurred. Officers believe there may be at least one other unidentified suspect linked to this incident.
Both Michael Evans and Dequante Green have extensive arrests histories with the Jackson Police Department. They are both currently out of jail, on bond for a series of felony charges. They also had felony warrants for their arrests from other agencies. Upon their release from medical treatment, they could both face auto theft charges and possibly weapons charges as well.
“The citizens of Jackson deserve some relief from Dequante’ Green and Michael Evans.”

No comments yet on the shooting at a city park in west Jackson reported as the results of a fight over a dice game. A shame that JPD and HSO cannot keep the city parks from being places for daily gambling, drugs and drinking. Jaycee Park located on Bailey Ave. and Wood Street host gambling, drugs and alcohol every afternoon between the hours of 3pm and 6 pm. Neighborhood children are not allowed by parents to use the park due to the illegal activity. JPD and HSO are unable or uninterested in providing a presence to keep the gambling and
Drinking/drugs out of the park. Just a matter of time until a neighborhood child or parent gets shot in this park. A real shame that the city can't police the city parks.
Shouldn't they have shakedowns unannounced at correctional facilities daily? Why is this news? Inmates with nothing but time are gonna do this. Pelcia, girl if you going to have a press release please, please include more content than this type of comment...
"Prison officials suspect that inmates caught with large quantities of canteen are likely engaging in extortion. Inmates caught with contraband face disciplinary action."
FYI been the way things operate in jails, prisons, and correctional institutions since they began. We realize this is all new to you as you have no background in the Correctional Field but this is not new and you are not doing anything great by gathering contraband from inmates. You are earning the money the taxpayers are paying you. News would be for you to give the citizens and accounting of how many offenders assigned to the Community Corrections Division were out running a muck while you had them off doing Institutional Jobs. (so officers from both Institutions and Community Corrections could conduct the search). Some days it appears like you believe this people are in the Care, Custody and Control of MDOC because they arrived late to Sunday School Class. SMH
The SIXTH time Commissioner Pelecia Hall has pulled Probation/Parole officers from supervising felons in the co.munity to look for contraband at prisons brought in by the guards. Apparently this is fine with the deputy commissioned of community corrections. I have heard that it is actually her idea because the officers do t have enough work to do. The next time you hear about a parolee committing a crime you can be proud that his parole officer spent 2 work days looming for drugs and shanks that lprison guards have provided their inmates.
Since the beginning of time. Use your best, imaginary Rod Serling voice here. The inmate, L. Jones 66432A, tell the slightly above minimum wage guard that Lucretia will give him nine hundred dollars on Wednesday next, at the Lo Sto in Hooterville Junction, out beside the propane tank. All he have to do, then, is bring the package Lucretia give to him and hand it off to Lucky Strike, aka Latrekarius Jones 66432A. Said package hold as contents two cell phone, 3 packs Marlboro Special Red, one steel letter opener and some battries plus a Post-It-Note bearing the lipstick signature of Lucretia.
And this new-gurl-in-charge gone bust-down these peoples? Hold on whilst I tie a chain to the cell winder and hook it to my truck bumper.
Why are probation officers working in institutions? why does the governor allow such poor managment? Why did the was this lady confirmed to be commissioner. Somebody somewhere must have compromising photographs of someone important......................
disgusting. more of the same at MDOC. that agency can't catch a break.
Sounds like a lot of readers here must be jail guards and their side gig is being infringed.
Actually, 6:34, since the beginning of time, state agency employees recognize bullshit for what it is, up to and including the appointment of unqualified persons to head their agency. Nobody in any agency (others than those who receive the rewards) likes to see appointments made on a purely political basis.
Looks like the MDOC dead horse beater was up late last night.
6.34 am: No. Taxpayers who are tired of thugs running wild in the community. Call MDOC to complain about a thug and hear.... We are doing the best we can. File a police report. Why should I have to file a police report? The d%%% parole officer should be doing there job!
Wait, is that the Kolb's Cleaners in FONDREN??? THE Fondren? Heaven on Earth where white and black hold hands and sing Kum Ba Yah and crime is a mere perception? Can't be!!
That MUST be a misprint. It HAS to be in Madison or Ridgeland or one of those other outlying communities that are full of racists and don't have great restaurants out the ass.
The arrests appear to be racially motivated. 💯 % were black. This is crazy
Bless your heart, 8:00 a.m....not had your daily meds yet!
@10:27am thank you for your concern. You are correct in that I missed my daily medication. My freelance pharmaceutical representative crashed his gray Nissan Pathfinder into a van over near Fortification and Whitworth and the racist cops arrested him because he's black.
Good thing about living in Fondren is that there are plenty of people who are on the same meds as I am, so I'll get my fix...oops, prescription filled by lunchtime. If not, Dequante should be out of jail and back in business by 2:30. I'll just read the JFP until then.
Dead Horse Beater says:
Sooner or later the stinking carcass of the MDOC horse will allow someone 'important" or "who matters" in the community to be injured or killed. When that happens there will be much hell raising and dismay that an agency and its community corrections department are in such a mess. Before that happens how many regular people will suffer because of MDOC?
Your right. this is a dead horse. if someone would bury this one we could move on to another one.
Shakedowns at the prisons are interesting, especially since they almost never happened before Hall got the top gig. Guys in prison wearing Timberlands and Air Jordans...
We never hear of any guards being fired for contraband, or vendors being disciplined for bringing in contraband. I guess it's too hard to hire COs at near minimum wage, so you can't fire them. And no way the prisons are going to clamp down on the inmates, because you can't rely on minimum wage COs to control things. So the prisons become holding pens where prisoners are allowed to do whatever they want, as long as they don't get too out of control.
Some of you are just racist and sexist. Pelecia Hall and Kristie Gunthers are strong capable women doing a great job. Just ask any employee in the agency and they will tell you.
The headline of this article reminded me of this:
Bad Boyz...Rad Toyz
Seen on the rear winder of a pick-em-up truck with a Mississippi State license plate and a 300+ lb driver wearing a camo ball cap and Oakleys.
wearing a camo ball cap and Oakleys
I think that's a requirement for living in Mississippi, along with the untucked Columbia PFG bonehead shirt over jeans and neon colored running (IRONY!) shoes. The Oakleys go over the brim when you step indoors, unless you're Mr. Cool.
"Headed to Bass Pro for some dress-up clothes! Thar's a sale on them fancy Bob Timberlakes!"
Not sure what this has to do with redneck Nicnar peeps. I thought the thread, and others, were about an incompetent black woman heading up a state agency.
Axe anybody? You've witnessed their posts for days on end Goober.
@ 12:49 what are you smoking? I want some. Everyone in that agency knows they are both incompetent. The entire department is laughable and non functioning and Flip Flop Feel should be ashamed of himself.
11:26, this is 12:49 here. You are absolutely right. I just wondered what how ma.ny people would respond. Disappointing. It has taken you more than 2 days to respond. "Silence is Consent". That's the only reason for those 2 people to be laege and in charge. People should speak up and make the Guv AND legislature listen......MDOC is capable of being far more than it is.. The agency just needs new leadership. Reckon the guv or legislature care? do they read this blog?
