Shooting at JPD HQ

I hate writing these posts. JPD detective Eric Smith was killed at JPD headquarters this afternoon. No more details are known at this time.

Update: Suspect is dead as well. WLBT reports he was a suspect in a murder case.

Marsha Thompson must be the dumbest reporter alive. She kept asking over and over how someone got a gun on the third floor of the JPD building. Its a frickin POLICE DEPT MARSHA!!! THERE ARE GUNS EVERYWHERE!!!! What an IDIOT!!!

Anonymous said...

Tomorrow night on WLBT Marsha asks the tough question. "How do people die in hospitals when there are doctors everywhere?"

Aprill said...

RIP Eric Smith

Anonymous said...

Obviously no one in the news room at WLBT figured it out either or cared to help the poor girl out!!! Someone probably just descided to let her drown on her own!!!

Print my comment asshole

Poor Marsha. She just couldnt, for the life of her, figure out how someone got a gun inside a police building. Its a MYSTERY!!!

You are truly a despicable person for publishing the name of the officer before the family had a chance to be notified. Truly despicable.

Anders Ferrington said...

I do respect your reporting, but I disagree with publishing the name of the officer before an official announcement.
I am not a journalist, but I had heard the rumor of the name an hour ago , but still will not state the name until JPD or other do so the family at least can be HOPEFULLY informed by proper authorities with some support personnel, rather than rumor or web info.
Just my personal opinion and beliefs

Obviously if a guy was being interrogated as a murder suspect - he would have been searched for a weapon. The detective interrogating him would have removed his gun before entering the room . No one in the room would have a gun. Maybe Marsha's question wasn't so dumb after all.

Anonymous said...

And how do you guys know the family had not been told?

Anders Ferrington said...

I would not assume they are not official until it it is official. Again not a journalist.

Alley said...

And you couldn't wait until his family was notified? What the hell. Show some respect.

This is a message from someone very important at WLBT. Effective immediatley Marsha Thompson will no longer be allowed to speak without a script. We regret her ignorance and apologize to our viewers. We have explained to her how a gun got inside a police headquarters building. She still doesnt understand but we are working with her. Thank you.

7:57: because other media outlets reported just a few minutes ago that police were still asking them to hold the name pending notification, an hour after Kingfish posted it. That's pretty low.

Anonymous said...

Any word on the suspect and which murder the arrest was for?

Anonymous said...

Incompetence - plain and simple

Anonymous said...

Marsha is still light years better than any of the neophytes reporting @ WAPT.

Anonymous said...

FYI to All:

Anders Ferrington is not a journalist.

Anonymous said...

I trust Kingfish's reporting ethics 8:07 PM. You are free not to read here if your conscious to that bothered.

Anonymous said...

@7;57 Obviously...MARSHA...he either wasnt searched or he took a gun from an officer. Be that as it may it could have been a number of scenerios. Lets go through them. It could have been, in the begining, a suicide. No one knew at the time of your initial reporting. It could have been an accidental discharge. Or a cop on cop shooting. WAIT..theres more...It could have been a cop shooting a subject then shooting himself. A suspect taking a gun from an officer and shooting said officer then shooting himself, or the officer pulling his back-up gun and shooting the suspect after said suspect took his gun, or other officers shooting the suspect. I mean really! MARSHA MARSH MARSHA!!! Thats a Brady Bunch reference. You assume all proceedure was followed to a T....hate to break it to you but....things happen..its life...SURPRISE!!! i know its hard to figure out but give it time....

Correct, I am an attorney and not a professional blogger, a journalist or otherwise, nor do I claim to know the ethics of the profession. I also do not hide between anonymous postings

Stop beating up on Marsha. Everyone makes mistakes. Good grief. A fine officer is dead.

Anonymous said...

Lot of sanctimonious assholes here bragging about how THEY knew the name hours ago but JJ should not report it. Stuff it.

Anonymous said...

Agreed!!! I don't care how Marsha did reporting. The fact of the matter is that an officer died today trying to serve justice. It is heartwrenching and the last thing we need to be complaining about is the media coverage. Let's stick to what is important here. In addition, I'm sure the family knew before Kingfish reported. The grapevine runs deep in the law enforcement community.

Anonymous said...

The sanctimony is courtesy of the plebes who work (for free) at the Jackson Free Press.

Hi Donna. You can shove it.

Anonymous said...

If the freckled-chief was back from the cleaners with her starched white shirts and shiney silver shoulder-stars, she had hours to notify the fambly. Or was she waiting for Harv to give her the go-ahead? Not need to jump Kingfish's ass for reporting. Plenty of time to notify the family had passed. Doubt they were sitting around reading Jambalaya. And yes, ain't many women in the Metro as air-headed as Marsha.

Anonymous said...

His high school friends already knew......shhhhhh it's on his FB page. So please STHU!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

DonnerKay's on Twitter using the JFP tag to mask her presence freaking about Kingfish. Too bad all of her groupies don't bother asking her why she ignores reporting on all the corruption and incompetence in Jackson and Hinds County. Ladd is a FRAUD.

Anonymous said...

If they do not like a blog that reports the truth then go to another blog.
Kingfish, thank you for great reporting. Prayers for the officer and his family.

clintonrebel said...

can the message board politics stop for one night and can we just pray for this guy's family and our community?

Anonymous said...

Somehow I don't think the families of JPD officers hang out on this website.

As for DonnerK, she has become a parody of herself.

TP said...

Officer Smith was interviewing a MURDER suspect and was attacked, disarmed, and shot with his own weapon...the suspect was then shot and killed by another officer. Tragic, and very sad day for JPD.

Can someone explain to me why he would be interviewing a murder suspect while carrying his service weapon? Wouldn't proper protocol be to leave your weapon with another officer OUTSIDE the interview area?

Anonymous said...

When has JPD used proper protocol? He should not have had his weapon on him! I'm just impressed they were actually doing an investigation!

Anonymous said...

European papers are saying it was a 23 year old being interviewed, and giving his name which I will not repeat.

Anonymous said...

I am a 60 year old white male. I was born and raised here in Jackson. Now, having said that, my point is...It makes me want to THROW UP every time I leave my house, drive a mile or so to work and have to look at what a dung pile this city has become. We are over run with thug ass welfare tards that don't have enough sence to come in out of the rain. Now, bless their hearts, they are murdering cops, in the DAMN police station no less. Hope and change my foot...

I suppose we should gather facts from "toots?

Please go back to Fondren's finest.

My best half, my future and my sorry ass are grateful for the duty of the JPD.

Sanctimony aside, I pray for the Honorable Mr. Smith. I pray for his family. The rest of you bitching can go rest somewhere south of the desert. You should know better.

Spokeswoman Green, my family felt your pain tonight seeing you on the tube. We all cried.

Anonymous said...

I feel much sorrow for Mr Smiths family even though mr smith felt no sorry for my family when my brother was murdered and Smith was the homicide detective on his case. And.... Was actually rude to my 66 year old mother who had just lost her son. Sooooo... For his family I will pray for them but for him, it is time to stand in judgement for the wrong doings that he did. And for whoever don't like this post. Get over it. When you have been through what my family has been through with JPD and the DA's office, Attorney Generals office and walked in our shoes then you can say whatever you want about this post.

I am sorry for you Loss, and lack of respect and treatment by the Jxn Police

Anonymous said...

1:09 am, your " sorrow" didn't last long enough to let the Smiths bury their dead.

I don't know the circumstances or if Det. Smith's "rudeness" was an attempt to get your mother's attention so she could be focused and help his investigation or if , for reasons unknown, Det. Smith and JPD homicide didn't want to do their job.

It's " do unto others as you would have them do unto you" not " do unto others like they did to you".

If everything you say is true, your comment is ill-timed and inappropriate and your " nobody knows how I feel" is sad, but you aren't as special and unique as you imagine. Get professional help to make lemonade out of the lemons life deals you!

Anonymous said...

Ahahahaha! Get my mothers attention so she could help the investigation. Lmfao! We gave him everything he needed to bring them to justice. But the color of justice is green!!!! And btw, boy this lemonade sure is good!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Then 6:20 pm, why didn't you go to the Feds or the media?

You don't think the national media would be interested in corruption and injustice in MS??????

Anonymous said...

I did go to the media and the Feds and the clarion liar and the Mississippi bureau who opened a case and the DA shut it down. Dumbass don't u think we would cover all bases. Duh! Like I said my lemonade sure taste good! Blah blah blah! It's being handled through our wonderful judicial system with no help from JPD! :) sipping my lemonade! Slurp slurp! Sip! Sip!

Fox News reported "Then the gunman turned the gun on himself". First time I've heard that.

Anonymous said...

PD put out a report that 'another officer shot him twenty minutes later'. Which is it? Can someone go down to the 'cleaners' and axe the chief to clarify?

Anonymous said...

12:28 am, if you have enough facts to support your claims, it's never too late.
Create a Facebook page in memory of your brother and chronicle the events.
Ask for new leads. A murder case can always be re-opened.
Do a video and put it on UTube to try to get interest in the case.
You are long on accusations and short on facts.
You are more about blame and anger than a determination to seek justice for your brother and closure for your family.
You didn't put a bit of sugar in that drink you are slurping...it's still obviously bitter.
And, you still don't see that adding to Det Smith's family's pain in this moment, even if all you say is true, doesn't serve you well. You can't hurt him. Unsupported accusations don't hurt his memory either and from your own description, he could not solely be responsible for the lack of justice in your brother's death.
Indeed, the way you've done this makes me think you've made this up for other reasons.

Blah blah blah!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
