Really, really bad timing for a welders strike.

The lady that was shot (pg 2) lived. She died in 1968.

Anybody who struck or continued a strike should have been jailed immediately. My dad was already in the Army Air Corps. Why weren't these welders?

Your Daddy was allegedly flying in planes MADE by welders and other private sector workers. They won the war, with our factories churning out planes and ships and munitions. They were THE essential workers. My Dad joined the Army Reserve a year before yours, and had been deployed to assist the Brits, who were FIGHTING already, needing those planes and ships. Stop wrapping yourself in your Dad's patriotism. We shame them with our consumerist greed today.

WHY did they strike, Cletus? Well, because it was a lot like now. Strike activity during the first 11 months of 1941 was at a relatively high level, as is usual in a year of rapidly expanding industrial activity, increasing employment, and rapidly rising living costs. (This is NORMAL, Cletus, and fair)

Get it? After the Depression greedy geezers continued to want to pay rock bottom wages, just like now. Now have 40 year high inflation such as these welders faced (thanks, Brandon), and a booming economy. Mostly good things. But CEOs want more beach homes, not to pay the actual producers of their wealth more. Greed-see Bible. Not new.

It's funny that this blog is sponsored by a "bigger pie" millionaire cited for tax dodge attempts, who howls blood murder if a worker dare ask, "Hey, Daddy Ag Bucks, can you give a bigger slice to us or are you just keeping all 11 for you and your spoiled family?"

What we DON'T have now is unions, as we write. And as we write workers are trapped in a non Union Amazon cut rate construction warehouse in Kentucky. Probably built to the same spec sheet as the one going up in Gluckstadt. Probably same Texas illegal crews for the Sub contractors.

This whine sponsored by the Bigger Fairer Slice Foundation.

12:03. Speak in complete and proper sentences and for your love of Unions, you can Take that and shove it. As a proud merit shop employer I speak for millions of people who have a disdain for your beloved Unions. Marxism at its core is what Unions are and if you dare speak against your beloved democrat for what ever office they TELL you to vote for you will be put on the back of the bench. Non Union all the way is what we need. Unions broke the legs of this nation. I can take 10 non Union tradesman and do what 50 union tradesmen can do

2:21, you don't even punctuate your words correctly, but you think you are the Grammar Police? You are missing commas, have an incomplete sentence to start, and have things capitalized wrongly. Good grief.

No one loves unions, but most adults are smart enough to recognize the WWII defense workforce that was largely unionized and produced the world's greatest war machine. Literally.

So, you come here to spew tobacco spittle on your screen regarding the nation's BOTTOM ranked workforce. You LOVE your Amazon Left Wing hero, antiunion Bezos, as well as that good jobs were shipped to Marxist China, but are too stupid to realize folks like you are the reason for that.

Our antiunion farmers import illegal aliens. Our politicians give tax breaks away to bring in Japanese corporations and Amazon, enriching foreigners and Leftists.

And you LOVE selling out America, but spew drivel about the Marxism YOU support. Think, son. Think next time.

Your "merit" claims have NO merit. Period.

There was a lot of turmoil going on in the thirties. Depression, going off the gold standard, unhappy WWI.vets who had been promised a pension. Hoover wasn’t popular. Communism, Fascism being promoted in the US. Hitler was on the rise. Big Money wanted control of the government (isn’t that unique). There were plots rumored to be forming to overthrow the government. Interesting times. Not unlike today. History is amazing. Try reading it sometime

12:03 - Who built WWII planes is irrelevant to the discussion. The point made is that any US citizen not willing to support this country at that time of war in our history should have been incarcerated. I realize that sentiment does not apply today due largely to people like you and your pacifist rhetoric and your perpetual status as a protesting malcontent.

You asked 'why did they strike'? Who cares why they were already on strike, but your red herring is acknowledged. Their being on strike, even if legally justified at that time, is irrelevant to the point that their country, under attack, called on them to assist in our survival. If they refused to support our country during that time of war, they were no different than pansy-assed draft dodgers. Had they been Jap-workers, their heads would have been separated at the shoulders!

Your unhinged diatribe re union wages, equal pie slices, daddy warbucks and CEOs is straight out of today's liberal college classrooms. And you, Mr. Anonymous, are no different from the thousands of liberal, communist professors who are intent on redefining America. I don't know who the hell Cletus is, but God help us all if you are in the classroom. And I'm truly sorry you never got a promotion.

Kingfish wants everyone to believe the same bullshit HBO version of history that he believes. What a cuck.

Couldn't even imagine how this country would handle this if another attacked like this were to happen today. Don't believe our "Why"generation would step up.

I'm afraid 9:41 is correct... a sad day indeed.

Only two generations away from the 'Greatest" generation and the sun is setting for good.

In addition to the need to teach Critical Race Theory, our schools, under federal leadership must also take seriously the need to teach our children the truth about our entry into wars and the reasons we should have stayed away from the conflicts that led us into WWI and II. President Obama was right to have apologized to the world for the sins of this nation. What would be wrong with our national language, today, being German...our country having an imperial form of government and enjoying asset/income-equality? As I type this my head begins to hurt and I struggle to find a sarcasm icon.

Sadly, however, some of you were already sensing the beginnings of erection and were about to clap loudly.

@11:12

Everyone involved is relevant.

So it okay for the elite to continuously rob the working poor of wages, even under the guise of war and ever increasing inflation. If those people did not strike, wages would have been incredibly poor for such arduous labor. It wasn't just the greatest generation because of war, but it was the greatest because they fought for a better life on several fronts! Unions have a place. Unfortunately, there are dishonest and people in all classes. But let's not only demonize the working class, business owners are the absolute worse. Remember back then, minimum wage was at a level designed so that a person could afford the bare necessities and make it. That is not possible with today's minimum wage. Why should we as taxpayers keep funding corporate welfare for the elite. Why should we foot the bill for Walmart and McDonald's and other companies that do not pay enough for a worker to live, not to mention the lack of benefits. The fact that a minimum wage worker needs welfare to subsidize their income is ridiculous. Why are we subsidizing these corporations from a wage standpoint? Small business owners have bought into this bullshit logic as well. Honestly, if you cannot afford to pay your employees livable wages, your business plan may be a failure. I refuse to hire beyond the capacity where I can pay a livable wage. Am I making employees rich? No! Can they live adequately within their means from what I pay? Yes! I must be profitable, but not at the point where I am exploiting the labor that helps to build my wealth. If the working class rises up like they do every so often, things can get ugly.

Thank you for your comments at 11:21, Tom Head (or one of his disciples), but if I may, let me sidetrack for the moment. Ophelia must be Kingfish's aunt who lives in a Ben Allen Sky-Condo. He has never, in six years allowed a post that is critical of her nonsense.

11:21 - I don't disagree with most of your comments, in light of the fact that unions, 80 years ago were, in many cases, a good thing. However, the whole pretext of your post wrongly suggests that these workers struck after war ramped up. This conversation and related articles from that day, are based on the fact that they would not COME OFF strike. They were already on strike and my point is they should have derailed their own strike in the best interest of their country. Treason (although we ignore it daily now) comes to mind.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
