Cochran campaign to McDaniel: "Put up or shut up" on voting irregularities.

Cochran campaign manager Austin Barbour* challenged the McDaniel campaign to "put up or shut up" at a press conference this afternoon.  The press conference took place at Cochran campaign headquarters on Lelia Drive.  Mr. Barbour said the campaign held the press conference to respond to accusations by the McDaniel campaign and its allies.  The complete video of the press conference is posted below

Chris McDaniel needs to go ahead and concede the election. Yes, I voted for the Chris... I guess that makes me one of them evil teabagging racist...

Look at Billy Hewes he tried to run a Lt. Governor and lost the race. Now Billy, is Mayor of Gulfport one the most popular cities in Mississippi. Maybe the Lord has other plans for him. Maybe Governor of Mississippi (my opinion only).

I'm not thrilled that Thad Cochran won. Yes, the one and only racist teabagger admits Thad Cochran won. This should be a warning to Thad Cochran that there are some angry voters out there who don't like how Washington is being run. It would behoove Thad Cochran to listen and Unite the Republican Tea Party...

The McDaniel campaign can't even punctuate correctly. I doubt they have any concrete proof of fraud.

Really devolved at the end. As McDaniel supporters hijacked the call. I have seen a couple of tweets from national press calling the efforts by the McDaniel folk "amateurish". Several have commented that they certainly didn't help their candidate.

Great press conference. Kinda upset the public wasn't let in. I'm a Thad supporter and I wanted to get in and see it and I wasn't allowed too.

when in private law practice, I handled a few election contest cases, both for candidates and later as legal advisor to a clerk. I always tried to convince candidates that election contests are red headed step children in the courts, not favored and rarely getting the desired result. I've sat through box and roll exams pro et con and never saw any evidence of real voter fraud EXCEPT absentee ballots for elderly and disabled people. In the one election I saw this fraud, it didn't amount to enough votes to alter the end results.

McDaniel is making very murky allegations and there is a reason for this: its simple, sophomoric rhetoric. He will never disqualify many black democrats that voted against him; yes, there will be a few that slipped through the cracks, but I don't think that many black folks were fired up over Childers on June 3rd...

Ya need a tumbs up or down option on each comment because mr. 5:11pm should get a thumbs up!

I voted for Thad and will again. His campaign sucked prior to the runoff and one of the reasons was Austin Barbour. He is awful. I realize thad probably cannot get rid of him now but he needs to be sent to manage the Midnight Mississippi Camapign Office. No offense to Midnight Mississippi.

Curiouser said...

5:11; funny that you would roll our your credentials as an opening to your opinion statement and then treat to name calling (sophomoric) and your amatuerish, from a distance conclusion before the facts are in and the investigation has been concluded. Who really cares what you THINK or what you DON'T THINK. If you have the experience you claim to have, how is it you're opposed to an investigation and would rather push your opinion as if it were fact?

Secondly; I watched this Barbour kid on TV tonite. I say kid because he's gotta at least be a college junior. Is there ANY end to the blood-line of Barbours who consider themselves Mississippi's Conservative Spokespersons?

Anonymous said...

Micah Gober some rational person is posting under your name. You better get them to stop using your name.

Anonymous said...

5:11; You're probably right that 'not that many blacks are fired up over Childers. Surely you realize not that many blacks get fired up over any candidate by name. It's only the symbol following the candidate's name that fires them up.

Surely you don't suggest blacks got 'fired up over Cochran'. Those who cheated the system got fired up over lies from the pulpit, the exchange of money and promises that will never be delivered.

As a bit of a political junkie, this is great political theater. I had thought that since the Al Gore/George Bush event in 2000 that there would be more and more elections decided through various challenges or even court actions. I think what will happen is that because of some of the precedent setting issues that will arise that at some point it will stabilize. I think McDaniel should push the legal envelope. I think Mississippi election laws will be considered, weighed, and maybe updated. Jackson Free Press has a good op/ed about how none of the "pro-voter ID" politicians who claimed that elections often have improprieties so voter ID was necessary have NOT said anything to suggest there was anything wrong with this one.

Good golly Miss Molly! The GOP is inbred with all these Barbour running things. Haley, Henry, Austin, Charles...how many more are there?

Will Cochran's replacement have six toes on each foot?

Anonymous said...

This is becoming more about putting down the Barbour's than anything personally against Thad. Like a dog that was good for a few years, and suddenly became aggressive. They've done a great job on sealing Thad's legacy to be on a similar path of Haley's, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Good riddance. See ya in court.

I loved this bit from the "Business Insider" story about the whole thing:

"Indeed, some of McDaniel's claims do appear questionable. For example, at one polling location, the Fondren Presbyterian Church, the McDaniel campaign claimed it found about 200 "irregularities." However, only 37 people voted there in the Democratic primary, meaning the maximum possible number of illegal votes would be 37. The McDaniel campaign didn't immediately respond to a request for comment."

The McDaniel method of rounding up is extraordinary.

look as long as McDaniel is getting attention he will never drop out. The tea partiers want to knock of an incumbent so they will press on and if need be vote democrat.

I have asked over 50 people who voted at the Lutheran church precinct to confirm the claim a blogger made on this site about two black ladies and a suspicious sign on the door. My friends came at various times and none saw what that person claimed. Perhaps, she was the first voter to show up, and she said she made them take the sign down, but somehow I doubt it.

Bless your heart, you just don't understand that with each passing hour more and more McDaniel supporters realize what gullible suckers they have been and slink away in embarrassed silence, leaving the rational ones here to continue chatting.

Jeepers Wally! What a keen idea!

If only there was someone, maybe like a, um, Chair of the Mississippi Senate Committee on Elections, who could have been working on something like that for the past four years.

I wonder is such a person exists, and if he knows about this strange situation we've got here. This would be a great way for him to distinguish himself and finally show some leadership!

"Jackson Free Press has a good op/ed about how none of the "pro-voter ID" politicians who claimed that elections often have improprieties so voter ID was necessary have NOT said anything to suggest there was anything wrong with this one. "

Duh - maybe because Voter ID worked flawlessly? No illegal aliens, convicted felons, dead people, etc, cast a vote this time?

Madame deLadd had her panties twisted about how blacks would be disenfranchised and prevented from voting if Voter ID was enacted. It sure seems like blacks got to vote this time despite Voter ID - too many to suit one candidate, at any rate.

Voter ID was never designed to weed out anyone who voted in one party's primary and the other party's runoff - that still requires checking the primary voter rolls at runoff time to make sure that doesn't happen.

Oh look, it's a "Thad Thug" babbling on and on...but WHERE IS THAD???
I have been following this embarrassment of my home state from the beginning. I combed through all media throughout this horrid campaign looking for Mr. Cochran...but NEVER saw a live tape of him (except the indecent animal tape!) discussing Mississippi state issues, answering questions from citizens or even a commercial that outlined any plans he has for the FUTURE of MS.
The only sightings of him were in ads bragging about how much federal aide he has funneled into MS over the PAST. And all that I have seen or heard from are all these Thad Thugs.
When I lived in Mississippi many years ago (and voted for Thad) I would actually see HIM answering voters questions and addressing our concerns for the state and country. He had the reputation of a gentleman.
WELL NOT ANY MORE.
What these Thad Thugs do not understand is that this evil election has put a microscope on MS in the WORST possible way. THEY have ruined this man's reputation not only across the state but across the nation...all for what?
Once again, MS looks just like the old days...where old white men still deal very dirty deeds to maintain control and power.
I personally believe that Mr. Cochran is not well and these Thad Thugs have a few more deal$$ that they need finalized before he leaves office.
And say what you want about Mr. McDaniel, but in every state outside of dear ole MS, HE has actually gained respect for his fight against what so many OUTSIDE MS see as evil corruption at the deepest darkest level....thanks to the THAD THUGS!!

McDaniel knows exactly what Austin knows and he will continue to ask for his believers to tithe until his debt is retired.

@9:56,
"And say what you want about Mr. McDaniel, but in every state outside of dear ole MS, HE has actually gained respect for his fight against what so many OUTSIDE MS see as evil corruption at the deepest darkest level...."
---9:56
Seriously, you must be too drunk to know what you're saying or too dumb to know any better if you believe what you typed about McDaniel gaining respect anywhere with a newspaper and wifi svc with a literate population.

In Tennessee, Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville, he is being laughed at along with the handful of folks just like you that are so deep in denial.

Did you hear about the "incredibly successful" Tea Party event on June 26 "America's Last Stand"that was scheduled in Smokies Stadium in Knoxville with seating for 6500-7500 in the stands plus another 2000 on the infield tarp? Probably not, because it was moved to "indoors due to possible inclement weather" ten days prior to the event (No, of course it wasn't poor ticket sales!). The event with Teabag heavyhitters Sarah Palin! Col. Allen West! Rick Santorum!, etc.in the Hottest Teabag area of TN with 95%plus White demographics, some towns as redneck as Jones County ever dreamed of being with ZERO blacks (and damn proud of it!). Anyway, read the Knoxville newspaper with rednecks arguing just how "many" were in attendance. One reporter (AP) was polite and said DOZENS. One counted 400 chairs total. Then ticket sales were reported at 390 officially. This was with a concert by John Michael Montgomery AND John Secada. Then lots of folks saw that every radio station had been given a couple of dozen FREE tickets, and the last week tix were either 1/2 price or buy one get one free. And the REAL TEAPARTY Americans that were told "tickets going fast" paid full price with no refund and got shafted! Good old tea party screws its only few dozens of loyal supporters in Eastern TN?

So yeah, those few baggers left standing better get ready to watch Lamar Alexander-R (elite, establishment) kick dust in their bigoted faces again, with or without the Black vote in the rest of the state. I won't even mention the TP candidate, because he'll be just like Chris McDaniel in a year... forgotten by everyone who doesn't live it Hooterville or Ellisville, MS.

Is there anti-incumbent fever in TN? You better damn well belive there is. But it's nothing like ABTP voters. That's Anybody But Tea Party, if you need a little help, pardner. You keep the Tea Party in Jones County and DeSoto county, you hear? That'll just make about 95% of TN happier. I'm embarrassed for those of you with self-awareness even though it's not your fault there are stupid, uneducated rednecks living there amongst you. But right now, at least the worst of MS is being highlighted instead of our worst in TN. I'm sure you'll be getting letters of thanks from AL & AR, too, each of which I'd normally consider much worse than my home state I left 35 years ago. But now, I'm not so sure.

Tenn-Tom

"...more respect for McDaniel?" Sorry, I'm afraid not.

JJ's appeal for funds must have works. He's screening out most posts regarding the Barbour Dynasty's puppeteering of Cochran.

Ten Tom you need to stay in TN and out of Mississippi because you don't know what you are talking about. The reason he got shamed in Desoto Co. is because he had Kirkendall supporting him and that killed his votes right off! No on respects him as he is a crooked as they come. The day he got of TV and said "Our people" need to get out to vote, killed all of Cockrans votes! I am not Tea Party advocate and neither is anyone in my family but we can see through this. As soon as Cockran is sworn in you watch and with in a few months, he will retire and they will appoint who they want in and continue the crooked ways!!!If they want someone else in there then the chicken should have run the right way. Not go in on someone elses back as Roger Wicker did!!!!

How does Melanie Sojourner think she won election to the State Senate? Democrats from Adams County helped elect her - now she says "NO DEMS ARE WELCOME"! She and Jim Armstrong who works for Phil Bryant posted on their facebook page "The 180,000 plus that voted for Senator Chris McDaniel on June 24th I think I will call all of you THE REAL REPUBLICANS. Please like this if you like this name or if you want to join us. (No Dems are welcome) Thanks and remember that the fat lady has not sung yet and she is not a Democrat so they can't pay her to sing early." We need to retire Sojourner and Phil needs to talk to Jim Armstrong AGAIN - the other times didn't help! Armstrong is urging McDaniel to run for Governor if the lawsuit doesn't succeed! The TP's are saying we need a true Republican loyal to the Tea Party in both the Gov & Lt. Gov spots!

I find it hysterically funny to hear y'all bashing Barbour NOW.

Y'all knew he made his money as a lobbyist! You didn't bother to find out who his clients were.

You didn't bother to wonder how it was he had gotten to live so " high on the hog" in D.C. having just been " one of us".

You liked that he sounded the mild mannered good old boy and didn't seem " too smart" and told you what you wanted to hear. You liked that he didn't make you feel like he was " better than us".

You knew he was a Republican and that was good enough then too, as it's never occurred to you that your party leaders could ever be as bad or worse that those of the other party.

You all adored him until he showed his true colors with the pardons and you know it.

Well, guess what? McDaniel is showing his true colors now and y'all are too blind to see it. He'll have to abandon the state and y'all see him in his limo before you " get" it!

To all McDaniel supporters,

First off, Chris McDaniel did much better than the armchair quarterbacks and pundits predicted. Obviously, it took strong financial backing from outside of MS to reach his people. However, his message did resonate with tens of thousands of people. Whether they were born in MS or are transplants these people wanted change.

Change, it was the fire that lit the fuse that started the Tea Party rallies. Those rallies were meant to wake people up, get them to vote, and send a message to Washington that we are fed up. Yes, all of us.

However, those rallies and that genuine energy and excitement have turned into a movement run by a small group of "insiders" that are simply attempting to build their own establishment. For example, take a closer look at some of the DC pacs that supported McDaniel. David Bossie (sp) has been in DC for over twenty years, has worked on the Hill, and had personal and financial motives in this race.

While I believe Senator Cochran was somewhat out of touch with the base here, he has been a fantastic representative of this State. Yes, to all of you that are from elsewhere, that means something! I wish he was more vocal, visible, and aggressive; but, that is simply not his style.

On the other hand, voters had a choice of Chris McDaniel who has a style that turned some people away.
The truth is his campaign went negative first, they had no other choice. While the comments and ads
were distasteful at times, his real public relations problems were generated by those around him. Those that HE hired and those that he knew.

In the end he lost and yes Cochran had to go deep into the playbook to pull out the win. But that was not illegal, it was genius. All people have a right to vote no matter what motivates them, legally.

Now we have those that cannot accept defeat. Those that are encouraging McDaniel to fight the results. Their fight is baseless, they are only hurting their cause and McDaniel's political future. If McDaniel needs to pay campaign debt, just admit it the people will help him, $50 at a time.

Those that are stoking the fire, like this clown from California, have their agenda at play, dont fall for that. Hijacking a conference call yesterday and disrupting a College Republican meeting is amateurish at best. These tactics of intimidation are right out of the NAZI handbook. How would the Tea Party feel if I showed up at a Mcdaniel event and started yelling questions at him like, why have you voted in Democratic primaries or are you sleeping with your campaign manager. But that didn't happen because that is not our style.

Tea Partiers and McDaniel supporters learn from this, it's not too late for you to have a positive impact in the Republican party. Help us take back the White House.

The Barbours have become Mississippi's modern-day Tennessee-Ford-Family taking the baton from the Northeast Mississippi Little-Family. Jeppie's feelings are hurt. They won't even tell him which room happy hour is in. He's still tabulating Tea Party Voter ID petitions down at Repub HQ.

If you count Hayes Dent (who is really Haley's son) there must be a dozen of these characters pretending relevance.

Don't count on these Bubba Gumps to derail the Tea Party though. Ain't happenin'.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
