Probably not. Will someone please explain humor to me?" They have no peripheral vision, can only see straight ahead and think inwardly. He begs for 'context', yet, to him, there can be none. No wonder my Greatest Generation relatives were so messed-up. In their youth, they read garbage like this, in newspapers. And one couldn't say "in heat", apparently. I assume this would be considered obscene.

Was this satire? Parody? Was it meant seriously? America was only then emerging from the Great Depression, and people had basically been driven insane by hard times. The parlance of the day reflected that, and so I can't make much sense of it.

It's interesting, though, that Hitler was still seen as a 'strongman', in '40. Later, he would be portrayed more accurately, as a criminal and a lunatic.

Anyway, could someone who understands that sick era (and who has more patience than me, with this style of writing) please set this within context, and then explain what the author is saying? Is he saying ANYTHING, or just being "funny"?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447438783001404385.post-20369926149918830152015-09-21T16:14:09.471-05:002015-09-21T16:14:09.471-05:00Good advice.
