They are working to defeat elected republicans but they are trying to replace them with republicans. That does not make EM a non-republican group as you try to state. What Pete said about the vote counting was true. Bill found around 300 votes that were questionable. The campaign tried to get him to say there were over 3,000 questionable votes. Bill refused to go along with that when it wasn't there. I knew other people who examined the votes and they said it was around 300 as well.

3. Bill supported McDaniel in the primary as many conservatives did. Hell, as a conservative, I have a problem with Cochran's record. However, when McDaniel lost, Bill said ok, he lost, time to move on, and supported Cochran in the general election.

4. Will has never passed a bill? That is a flat out lie. Just off the top of my head I can think of the domestic violence bill that became law last year. Big deal. It allows police to charge suspects with felony domestic violence without the victim's consent or her filing a complaint. It was his bill and he worked hard to get it passed. There was also an insurance bill he was tasked with working his first year and if passed as well, if I'm not mistaken. Trash that bill and you will get trashed by me and a few others.

5. I don't think many people look at Andy Taggart as being disgraced. Most people respect him as one of the elder statesmen of our party. I also don't think anyone who knows Franc Lee would characterize him as Tea Party. As far as Empower is concerned, as I understand it, the group was responsible for getting the special needs esa bill passed this year. Longwitz voted for it (after voting against a nearly identical bill last year). It's also my understanding that Empower's PAC is supporting Republican candidates, including a bunch of good incumbents. I get that you have to attack to cover up the fact that your guy hasn't done anything in four years, but you should come up with something better than blasting Bill's well-respected supporters. He lied about his experience in Court. He waited until a few days before the election and lied about his opponent in a mailer. He lost. When Walter Michel announced he wasn't running for re- election, Will's new life dream became being a Mississippi State Senator. He promised Henry Barbour a clean campaign against Charles and then, a few days before the election, put out another dishonest mailer. Will ran in 2011 as a Tea Party guy. His own ads prominently featured the Tea Party label. It was popular then. He entered the Senate telling people he was going to be the smartest guy in the chamber. He joined Chris McDaniel's conservative coalition. When the Tea Party and Chris became unpopular, he disassociated. Where was he in the 2014 Senate race? Did he embrace his Tea Party/McDaniel roots? Did he support Cochran? Nothing publicly. Really just depended on who he was talking to. As he told one prominent Republican leader who questioned him about common core, "tell me what you want me to say." The guy doesn't stand for anything. He's arrogant. He's duplicitous. That's why his biggest supporters from 2011 are now supporting Bill. That's why Bill, who probably did more for Will Longwitz in 2011 than anyone, decided to run against him. Bill has a tough road ahead of him. He's too honest. He doesn't do a good job hiding what he believes. He's not polished. And he's running against a polished incumbent. But, Bill is far and away the better man. Opinion 3: Bill got stuck with the a...(cont'd)

Opinion 3: Bill got stuck with the affidavit of 'his findings' being filed as if he was claiming those items as being violations. That claim was made by McD and his legal team.
Opinion 4: On the record - and I made this same statement throughout the process last June and July and multiple times since - Bill represented himself as a perfect gentleman and in a very professional manner beginning on election night at 7 o’clock and throughout the many days that followed.
It is clear to everyone that he and I were on absolutely different sides of this very heated election. His conduct throughout the process that requires a questioning of the work of many folks that had conducted the election could not have been handled better.
Opinion 5: In fact due to Bill’s professional handling of the process and factual reporting of his findings of no significant issues, it is my understanding that many McD campaign insiders felt that he wasn't doing his job properly - he ‘wasn't finding stuff’ like they expected him to do and he refused to make it up as they needed.
I am not making this statement for any reason other than to clear up numerous misstatements and attacks on his character that have been made regarding his involvement in the election examination. He made NO 'attempt to throw out anybody's vote'. If his findings revealed election errors that could lead a court to find the results in question it would be at the behest of the McD campaign and based on facts that existed. He did not report any such finding of facts.
Throughout the process, all Bill ever said he was looking for was the facts - and wherever the facts lead would determine the result. After he found no significant issues in Hinds County he strongly recommended to the McD legal team to drop any further attempt at a contest. The fact that they didn't have sense enough to do so was not Bill's call.
Now, again, I am going to try to withdraw from this pi$$ing contest. Let the election continue - but try to keep it on the issue of the 2015 Senate election. And quit talking about the 2014 process when you weren't there and don't have a clue as to what actually happened.
Thanks for letting me vent. Pete Perry
Pete Perrynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447438783001404385.post-33557584605614971342015-05-19T19:46:10.912-05:002015-05-19T19:46:10.912-05:00I've tried to stay out of this fray and I'...I've tried to stay out of this fray and I'm sure my entrance now will set off folks on both sides. But there has been too much made of the crap from 2014 from folks that have no clue about the actual facts. The role Bill played in the election examination and McD's idiotic ‘supposed’ contest is not at all as people are trying to state here. And – in case you don’t know - I was there. Throughout the entire process. And anything I state here is entirely on personal information of exact facts.
Fact 1: McD campaign filed a notice of examination of the election materials – an examination that is provided for in the law. Bill was appointed as McD’s representative to be in Hinds County. There were other volunteers representing the campaign in most but not all the other counties.
Opinion 1: McD would have been much better served to be represented by folks who were experienced and educated in the process than by the volunteers he recruited, but that’s only my opinion. The campaign chose to use volunteers.
Fact 2: Hinds was the focus of attention for the McD campaign because the large number of total votes and the large vote difference. Therefore Bill's role drew much more attention than other counties.
Fact 3: Bill did not try to throw out anybody's vote in Hinds County. What he did do was review the materials and document anything that he found that was not clear on its face as to its propriety. This is the process any good examination would do following a close election.
Opinion 2: This entire effort was futile because of the total vote difference and because the primary focus of the examination was not against MS statutes. IMHO the McD campaign was not looking for a needle in a haystack as is often the case in a close election, but they were looking for a haystack in which they hoped to eventually find a needle.
Fact 3: Representatives of the McD campaign (not Bill) claimed that there were thousands of miscast votes in Hinds County - sometimes claiming 1,500 and at other times claiming 3,000 or more -out of the 26,000 total votes cast. After conducting an examination of the actual materials Bill found less than 300 individuals that might - emphasis on might - have voted in the Republican runoff after having voted in the Democratic primary – their claim of ‘crossover voting’.
Fact 4: It is questionable whether this crossover voting is actually a violation of MS law; but the McD campaign was claiming it was and they were looking for any possible instance they could claim. Bill’s findings were that the thousands claimed by the campaign had no validity and that the most possible actual ‘crossovers' was less than 350. These 350 cases were where he could not clearly establish that they were not crossover votes.
Fact 5: Other findings noted in his report included what any examination would make note of – items to be looked at by the legal team to ascertain as to whether or not they were violations. The job of the examination is to find anything that needs to be looked at. The job of the lawyers is to determine if in fact they are problems. But - Bill was dealing with an incompetent legal team. (Sorry Mitch, maybe it was an incompetent client. Who knows?) Bill's affidavit stated what he found - not whether those findings amounted to issues that should be raised in a contest. (A perfect example: Absentee ballot that was rejected by the poll workers with no reason ‘noted’ on the ballot envelope. Such ballots – i.e. SOS Hoseman - were listed in his report because that was his instruction from the campaign even though there was a clear reason for the rejection. The McD campaign instructions were to make note of anything that appeared to be 'out of the ordinary'. In any normal election contest those notes would be resolved before they were thrown into a filed contest.

(cont'd)
Pete Perrynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447438783001404385.post-58619531445457594012015-05-19T18:56:44.360-05:002015-05-19T18:56:44.360-05:005:06 Sorry to bust your bubble, but there are a lo...5:06 Sorry to bust your bubble, but there are a lot of Cochran supporters behind Bill.
