That is less than $2000 from what the AVERAGE FAMILY OF FOUR IN MISSISSIPPI MAKES.

If a teacher has a master's degree and seven years experience, that's a $40,000 salary, again, plus benefits and PERS. If you have three years experience and NBCT certification, you're making close to $43,000. That's a solid salary for 187 days of work.

My wife is required to get five CEU's (roughly 8-10 three hour long classes) over a FIVE YEAR PERIOD. Most of them can be taken during the normal 187 days that they work.

And contrary to popular belief, teachers aren' paid for the summer. They are paid for 187 days work (August-May, excluding breaks and holidays) but their salary is spread over 12 even payments.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447438783001404385.post-37746227424520376462010-05-27T09:55:22.004-05:002010-05-27T09:55:22.004-05:00I like this guy a lot. We think 83,000 is alot of money here but in NJ that is nothing unfortunately.

However, you need to look at the deals the teachers have in NJ and their reaction to any proposed changes. they are totally cut off from reality.

As for teachers having to grade at home, do things at home, so what? So do most other professions. Every small business owner I know brings the work home, it never stops. I know plenty of small business owners who make less than their employees. Then there are sales people. Most get paid a base of 15-2500 a month, depending on industry, just enough to survive. Expense reports, call reports, projections, and other time-consuming paperwork, think that is done during 8-5 M-F when its prime-time to see customers? Nope. its done at home on their own time. My point is in most professions, you don't leave the work at the office and bring it home and I'm sick of the teachers griping about how they have to bring work home. Guess what? All of you think it is so easy to teach, I would like for you to spend one day in a classroom and then talk to you about teaching. No phone calls, no breaks, no bathroom trips except between classes, requirements to be at all games and activities held by the school, phone calls from parents that want their child to have a free ride. The real reward is seeing the child learn what you have been teaching......you can see the light bulbs go off when they get what you are talking about.

About having summers off.....I wouldn't call it summers, maybe a week or two. Classes are required to continue your licenses which must be taken during the summer and we have to pay for that out of our small salary (except for this one woman who makes more than any other person in the state). Kids get out June 2 which means we get out June 9 and then they start back August 6 and we start back July 28. That's summer.

Again, I love teaching cause it is so rewarding! The benefits out weigh all the things mentioned above.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447438783001404385.post-1522883828631843682010-05-27T08:40:22.202-05:002010-05-27T08:40:22.202-05:00I'd love to have a job where I was making &quo...I'd love to have a job where I was making "Only 83k". With her degree and experience, she makes around $40,000 a year for 187 working days. That's around $213 per day + state benefits and an attractive PERS deal. If she worked a 250 day schedule like I and most people do, that's about $53,000. In Mississippi, where the average family of four makes $34,000

She thinks its extremely fair considering that she has 2 weeks at Christmas, a spring break and two months of summer. She works longer than 3:00 because she's a good teacher.

In her experience in opinion, the teachers that gripe about pay are the ones that you don't want teaching your children.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447438783001404385.post-44692344329266421072010-05-27T08:03:27.956-05:002010-05-27T08:03:27.956-05:00I like this dude.I like this dude.KaptKangaroohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04205368935149517936noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2447438783001404385.post-84793236785245808912010-05-27T06:40:50.363-05:002010-05-27T06:40:50.363-05:00more evidence that teachers live in a fantasy worl...more evidence that teachers live in a fantasy world with their own suns, moons, and stars.

I'd like to see those spoiled bitches get up at 4:30 a.m., fix breakfast for the men, feed the kids, feed the chickens, and get on a bonnett for the hot sun and work the vegetable garden all morning.
